Hello,

I trying to plan an off road trip in March. I would like to go to Colorado, but I am guessing most of the good trails will be covered in 5' of snow, so I have lowered my sights to Utah, probably Canyonlands. I have a stock FJ and some friends may be coming along in a stock Landcruiser. We are looking for intermediate trails with great scenery. We are looking for suggestions. Is the Canyonlands the best place to go? Are there stops along the way to break up the trip from MN to Utah? If canyonlands is the best area, what are the best trails. We have 9 days(one week and both weekends). Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Moab is a great place to go. Lots of trails to choose from. As for here in CO it will be hard to find many open trails, Springs Creek is a good one but it is on the north side of a mountain. So There is usually snow there! You could do alot of Bill Moore Lake but the top is above tree line so snow will be a problem there too. There might be some trails open around Grand Junction, but im not too familiar with stuff over there. Go to moab, it is great and there is lots of stuff to do there!

A guy on the local club site gave me this advice for Colorado

You can visit any of these sites:
Main Page - Dirtopia, the Off-Road Encyclopedia (newer, but has more potential)
4x4Trails.net (long running site, may not be 100% up to date)
TrailDamage.com (Good info, but ratings may be a little off)

Those will definitely get you started. Keep in mind that trails change quickly in CO with weather & seasons, so the descriptions may not be 100%. The advantage of Dirtopia is that anyone can update the trail, so it SHOULD be more up to date.

Also, you have probably seen the thread I started about Moab trail advice for a newbie. I think you will see some good discussion regarding trails. Wells also make a trail book for CO. If you get the Moab book make sure you get the latest edition. Hope this helps and good luck.
