Going up by Sunflower Mine area off of HWY 87. Not doing the traditional 'loop', but going in the back way, then at the creek where the old homestead was, heading up that trail to where an old mine is supposed to be. Should be fun seeing some different trails

If anyone wants to go, I'm meeting at McDee's on Shea/Beeline at 9am on Sunday.

Good luck with that. You'll probably need a chainsaw

you been up there? Trail looked pretty good from the distance. Well, if that's un-runable, there's plenty of other things to do in the area!

If it's where I think you're talking about. Going the back way Northish on FR 201, down into the valley on the left, a short ride to a creek where there was a cabin, now a foundation and a log. Across the creek is a mine shaft with water running out most of the time. Instead of following the trail past the mine shaft, a left U-turn, You would go right, up the creek draw? If this is the spot you're speaking of, It's been years but I've walked up that way a bit, and at the time it seemed to quickly become very brushy and overgrown and untraveled. I think that was the old road to a processing site that you can get to from further up on FR 201. Could be more unknown stuff in between though.

Or you could go to Sedona with us!

I was up in Sedona last week!

What you describe sounds like the area. I guess we'll have to see. The topo map shows it as a pack trail - but then, a good part of the sunflower mine loop is also shown as a pack trail! We looked down over the canyon from further back, and the 'road' looked pretty usuable from that vantage point.

But sometimes, that's half the fun - just seeing what's out there and not running trails that have been run a hundred times over!

I am probably going to meet you at the Micky D's at 9. I'll probably need to top up on the way out, at the Circle K just down the road. I'm just reading this, sorry for the last minute reply.

Nice run!

Hey, the White Elephant has a wee bit of body damage, but that is one cool rig!

Well, the three of us ended up going out there (Vern from Toy Specialists also)

First off, it was what, 100+ in the valley? About 80 or so up near Sundflower..

The trail from the homestead was driveable - for about a mile, then the road suddenly ended:doh:

So, we backtracked out to where sunflower loop ends at the main rd, went north for a bit, then followed a jeep (toyota) trail down to the mine. Pretty cool. we then went north for a while longer, stopping to BBQ some dogs for lunch, then following a trail off to the right which ended up intersecting the sunflower loop trail. So, we did the half of the loop backwards, which was pretty fun. Never been through the rock garden in the oppisite direction.
