TPS Sensor adjustment

I posted this on the tail end of another thread, but maybe should have started a new one. I'd like to check/adjust my TPS sensor this weekend. The FSM indicates to create a vacuum on the throttle opener. Are there any suggestions/ways to do this, or do you have to get one of those $80 vacuum pumps.

I have adjusted many with out opening the vacuum on the opener(it is to control the throttle plate upon lifitng the foot off the throttle when driving to not allow the throttle plate to close sharply). Just adjust as the book says, later robbie
