What is the latest/best place to buy an injection pump timing tool/dial indicator mount for the diesels equipped with the rotary pumps? I used to have one when I was into VW's but can't find it and need to order a new one.

I currently have a 1L, and a 2L diesel that I just did timing belt replacements on and the trucks are up and running but would like to properly time the pumps. And I don't have a manual for these, what is the spec on TDC #1 timing? .60mm or something?

Specs are in the manual for the 2L. If you can't find it let me know and I'll take a look. I have it on my computer for sure, but I think it's also out there for download too.

Well I just ordered one of those to, looking forward to getting it.
Found that the timing for the L is 0.94-1.06 and the 2L is 0.82-0.98mm.

I am curious as to why the difference, although minor; in timing specs between the L and 2L. I wonder if they have different compression ratios or something.

Does anyone have any thoughts on having them timed more to the advanced side or retarded side for best mpg, egt, smoke etc?

Advanced on a diesel, gas engine for that matter too.

Think about it, you don’t want any detonation on the upstroke. Ever heard a diesel that is really retarded? Sounds awful, like a rod is bad.

I always set the diesels on the upper end of the specs. That’s where I find they run the best. Smoke free starts as well.

Cheers
