Howdy there!

To save a much longer version of a very long and very unfortunate story, I bought a Tundra that had a blown head gasket that was concealed from me. After doing my due diligence of examining the old gasket, checking the block for true, and following through with the very expensive repairs, I started getting exhaust in my coolant after about 700 miles of driving. So unfortunately my block is probably toast despite my best efforts to diagnose this beforehand, and I need a new motor entirely.

I found a 3UR-FE supposedly imported from Japan with "around 50k" miles on it. The price is not reflective of this state of the motor and I am fairly certain that it has many more miles than that and is probably not off the boat from Japan. I am hoping that someone here can help me decode the engine serial number because I cannot afford to do this again, nor can I afford to sell my truck at an obscene loss because I would be unable to replace it at this time.

If the motor indeed has a Japanese plant code and not an Alabama one, then that at least gives me a lot of reassurance. I have been looking on the internet for a couple hours now for this information and I cannot find it.

Thank you very much for your help!

US/JP 3URs are both reliable. They both can be overheated (and this is what happened to yours). It is very typical for Japanese car/parts to be well under 50k, because this is how they drive them. I would buy a good US-assembled 3UR without a hesitation.
