The Toyota fortuner is a SUV based on the Hilux (literally boxy Hilux) and it is if I'm not wrong the true 4runner after the split of the for 4runner and become related to the Prado segment. So after the second generation of the 4runner the fortuner is the real current 4runner (if I'm not wrong the 3rd generation 4runner split from Hilux and become different segment)

Toyota fortuner is uncomfortable vehicle comparing to the Prado or FJ Cruiser and that (maybe due to stiff suspensions)

The wheelbase of the fortuner is shorter than the 4runner: fortuner 2745mm Vs 2790mm 4runner and the transmission 6 speed for the fortuner Vs 5 speed for the 4runner.

But also is lower type than the 4runner so a lack of kdss, MTS and crawl control isn't available even as features.

But the big advantage of the fortuner over the 4runner and the FJ Cruiser as the variety of engines as we know FJ Cruiser and 4runner comes only with 4.0L V6 with 268hp and 370nm while in the fortuner:
4.0L V6 235hp and 376nm
2.8L turbo diesel 201hp and 500nm (the beast of torque)
2.7L 4 cylinders petrol engine 164hp and 245nm
2.4L 4 cylinders turbo diesel 147hp and 400nm

The price approximately is $52000 for the 2.8L turbo diesel

Competitors:
Nissan X-terra
Mitsubishi Montero
Isuzu MUX
Ford Everest (Australia, new Zealand and south Africa)
