I am making a move from Lubbock Texas to Loveland Colorado on Wed or Thur. I have to get a UHAUL and was wondering if my FJ60 would tow a trailer that far? I could either just get a trailer and tow it up there but if that will not work I will have to rent a truck and make the trip. What would you guys do?
Depends on the weight of the loaded trailer, and the condition of your 60. In my owners manual, it says not to exceed 3500 lbs towing. That's a safe recommendation, but I'm sure many of us have exceeded that. Is your cooling system up to snuff, are the tires in good shape, engine tuned, brakes working well, etc. If these critical systems are all in good shape, then absolutly tow the trailer. The cruiser isn't a great tow rig, so you won't be going fast, but it'll get you there. Towing puts a lot more strain on the tow vehicle, so if your 60 isn't in top mechanical shape then you might want to consider another option.
Going from Texas, one of the low states in terms of altitude, to Colorado, might not be good for any stock 60. I don't know if a stock 60 will make it up all those mountains towing a trailer. I suppose that if it's in tip top shape, then you will be fine, but have a backup plan. If you have it, then you won't need it.
