Can anyone tell me the towing capacity of my BJ70. I've read on one site that its 3300kg's (7260lbs.) but I find that hard to believe. I'm also interested in building a utility trailer for it, something with 3500lb axles. Are there any free plans/designs out there, or suggestions?

Depends on the towbar fitted.
My LJ70 with i's current towbar has a maximum towing capacity of 2,500kg (about 5,000lbs) braked.

I would think that with a similar towbar on the BJ (as it is a little smaller) the max would be around 2,000kg (around 4,000lbs).

Ive seen those ridiculously high maximum tow figures. From my memory a B motor is good for about 1/2 ton or 1100 pounds all up if your travelling long distances. I remember bringing a small car back home that had broken down towing it behind a Bj 40.
It was a long trip home dropping back to 2nd on the hills on a main highway with about 2000 pounds behind us.
Not an experience I want to repeat

Your figures make the most sence, no matter how you look at it, it still only has 159ft.lbs. of torque, and weighing maybe 4000lbs? I think these guys are towing in low range :)
