Thanks for all the help on Trailer Hitches and wiring.
Learning a lot.
My 2002 LX only had a connector for the 4-way plug.
My goal is to be able to pull a Camper Trailer.
So, I've ordered the following:
4-pin wiring:
Tekonsha Tow Harness #118245 $ 21.95
Trailer Hitch:
Draw-Tite Hitch: 75095 $172.95
Wiring:
Trailer Connector Mounting Box, #18157 $ 7.99
Universal Wiring Kit $ 65.84
Quickie Tester $ 23.95
Brake Controller:
Tekonsha Prodigy P3 #90195 $144.15
----------
$436.83
It ain't cheap to fit a vehicle with full trailer functionality ... and there is still more
to purchase.
I've mounted the Draw-Tite Hitch - basically a bolt on job. I did it myself using
my trolly jack to hold up the hitch while I screwed in the bolts. Did not have
to drop the Muffler like it says to do in the Etrailer video. Did have to remove
the bumper facia bar. The 4-way connector
was basically plug and play using the Tekonsha wiring harness.
Now to provide 7-way with brake controller functionality required that I run a wire pair
from the trailer hitch to the Engine Compartment. I put the LX AHC in High mode and
was able to do it laying on my creeper. Laying the wire out underneath was pretty easy.
to get wire trough the Firewall, I punched a hole in the large rubber Grommet where a
thick wiring harness went into the cabin. Then used one of my fiberglass wire fishes (Harbor Freight)
after the punch to pull 3 wires from inside to the Engine Compartment - those three wires
were for +12v, ground, and Brake Control.
Have not completed the job as I am awaiting the Prodigy P3 controller and the Trailer
Connector Box. Had to use the Trailer Connector Box as I could not find a good place to
mount the supplied metal mounting bracket.
