I like working on cars/trucks and thought about getting something like this to help save my back while working on vehicles. Has anybody used/have one of these? Is it worth $260 (including shipping)?

Thanks,
Justin

Depends on how much time you actually spend in that kind of position. I know what you mean about your back having suffered from a herniated disc and pinched sciatic nerve. But I don't spend enough time actually hunched over an engine bay like that to make the price or storage space required for it worth it.

Agree. I can't justify the price for my usage. Don't mean to hijack the thread. I am thinking to build one out of plywood that goes over the fenders. Anyone has any idea, suggestion?

I have been looking at these as well but having a hard time parting with the money. It sure would make life easier when working at the firewall and/or in the center off the engine compartment. Seen one on CL in Ohio for $90 but that's 250 miles from me, wont be happening.

The reviews on Northern Tool make that thing out to be the cat's meow Lots of pro's chimed in.
SO it's not whether its a good product, just if it's worth the expense and any storage hassles.

As far as a backyard wrench making a plywood one, I see that working out okay too, if done well enough. It could even be made adjustable for width. Pair it with a stepstool/stepladder.

If I were a pro mechanic using it daily (or even a few times a week) it would definitely be on my list.
