Too far from the shoreline, in beautiful WTF Flori
I know that I've seen a few 60/62's with no tops and cages, but these seem to be mostly crawlers and trail rigs. And I know that there's one on here somewhere, that has a 1/2 top similar to the old 4 runners.

Here's my question.
My top is going to need some rust repair. Recently, I've been contemplating the idea of a removable top similar to the 4 runner or J**p Unlimited (4-door). Something that the entire top could be removed and replaced at will.

I'm in Florida, and while most of the year is fine for topless driving, there is this time of year where the afternoon rains will get you daily!

I think it would be a  looking rig, but just not sure its something that's even possible?

Any thoughts from the MUD crew?

Tapage on the forum has what you're thinking. His is a soft-top and very well executed. Having a removable hardtop would be difficult. But the idea is awesome.

If I had a rusty roof 60 it would have no carpet, caged, and a false roof on top. Just for sun shading. I'd envision all the glass being pulled from the doors and finishing the gaps from windows and where you cut with sheet metal similar to a truck bed for a rounded edge.

Thanks.
The roof isn't a total wreck, so I'm not sure yet, but it's been a thought popping around in my mind for a while now.
My biggest concern is noise and water leakage. It rains like a cow pissing on a flat rock here in Fla. in the summer and during hurricane season.

I like the idea of open air cruising with a roll cage like the j**ps, but I would really like the top to be completely off to the windshield. Trying to figure out a way to re-connect it to the uprights?

Thanks Spike.
That's the one I was thinking about.
Very nice rig!!!

Thanks:beer:

Gord, For the Florida rain & weather reasons you mentioned, I had to get a top made for mine.
Although not as nice as Tapage's or as nice as you probably want, I found a local shop to make one. Wheels to Wings on Gandy Blvd did it fairly reasonably for $325. Sides and back roll up and secure with velcro. Most local boat top and upholstery shops didn't want anything to do with making a top. Prolly cause my truck is so ugly.

It's weather tight and noise level isn't bad. The windows all fog up when it rains though, and the plastic windows aren't that good for visibility.

I'd hate to see you cut your roof off though. Last time I saw it, it looked somewhat repairable.
