Just saw the latest episode last week in which Rut faced against a kayaker in the Elk Mountains on Schofield Pass.

The two race against each other while Rut drives down Schofield Pass and around Lead King Basin, Erik Boomer races down the mighty Crystal River.

Thought you guys would enjoy it.

I spoke to Brad Lovell the other day about the episode he said he had a blast hanging out with the crew.

Man! I wish I could have been there for that.

I watched this episode and something was bothering me. It shows them starting at the bridge over the river right where Lost Trail Rd and Co Rd 3 join up. (You can't miss the rusty pickup that's always parked at the end of that private drive!) The route they show on their map makes sense, they are going to race south/southwest down the road paralleling the river towards Crystal. As the race starts the truck is pointed in the expected direction and they take off. Following this route would put the mountainside to the left of the truck for most of the race, until they hit the intersection with Forest Rd 317 (Schofield Pass). The very next scene the mountain is to their right and they are going up the switchbacks that are to the North of their starting location. Next he says they've hit a flat section and they are hauling ass. This part looks like the center section of the Leadking Loop (Lost Trail Rd) and then they appear to be going down the switch backs on the south side of the Leadking Loop which would drop the out to the south of the Mill and they would have to back track north to get to the mill. But then all of a sudden they are back on the north section of the Leadking loop looking down on the Kayaker to their right. So they seem to have teleported from one end of the loop to the other. Now he says "We're neck and neck with 200 yards to go and the river is immediately to the left of the road and they are looking at the kayaker. Well 200 yards north of the Mill the river is about 50 yards of dense Forest away from the road. To top it off they then fly past the Lost Trail Rd. sign which is like a mile back up the road at this point.

Very cool episode and it was awesome to see some local scenery on Top Gear but it seems this was more of an interesting montage of random footage than any sort of actual race. On that note I just realized not everything on TV is real, my reality has been shattered and I'm off to reconsider my entire life.

There was also a forest service sign marking the trail as #1969. It was defiantly a bunch of different clips.

Leave it to the locals to point out that it's all bunk. I always thought the top gear races were staged and kind of corny. Great play by play!

Found the same thread in the FJ Cruiser forum and they also pointed out all the discrepancies. But imagine running that trail at race speed. One slip and your dead! But it's only TV.......
