Yes it's an FJ40. Nobody ever called it an "FJ" though until the FJ Cruiser came out (at least I never heard anyone refer to one as an FJ until then). It was either an FJ40 or a "40" (to distinguish it from a 55 or 60).

I see you joined two years ago and have 29 post. Did you even own a FJ40 25 years ago? I did and never called it an FJ or heard it called that. I see you have an FJ Cruiser, maybe that is why you do not have the love for the 40's most of us on here do. Thanks

I actually have both…. My fj cruiser gave me a deep love and appreciation for the old 40s! I think it’s a great vehicle for new Toyota owners of the off road persuasion to get into the culture. It’s not a Landcruiser.. (psst, it actually has a Prado frame…) but it got me to love it, (I was a keep guy before.. don’t hate me..) I love my 40 and my fj.

I actually have both…. My fj cruiser gave me a deep love and appreciation for the old 40s! I think it’s a great vehicle for new Toyota owners of the off road persuasion to get into the culture. It’s not a Landcruiser.. (psst, it actually has a Prado frame…) but it got me to love it, (I was a keep guy before.. don’t hate me..) I love my 40 and my fj.

I didn't, but did notice the poor quality of the brake line routing on the firewall. They looked like they were re-bent by hand and not with a tubing bender. Surprised to see that it was a TLC 4x4 'Stage 3' build, I thought they did better work that that.

If I had $120k to blow on a 40 Series Landcruiser, it wouldn't be that one. Knowing it belongs to him, even less value to me. Plus the glovebox door needs to be repainted.

I looked at the 2014 frame diagrams. Of course the Prado and GX are the same vehicle but the 4Runner frame is quite different....if by platform you mean frame.

The internet says they do in fact share a frame, but who knows. My understanding is that the FJ, 4Runner, prado, GX, fortuner share the same platform as in engine choices, frames and other bits or whatever

GX has always had only a petrol V8. 4Runner had a 4.7 V8 option on the 4th gen but most were six cylinder petrol. Fj Cruiser was only petrol six cylinder. Many Prados were diesel.

Sounds like you knew you were going win the auction. Thought I had it won until the last minute. Wasn't nice out bidding a senior citizen on a fixed income.
