Is the rock area at Uwharrie still open? I don't know much about it, but would like to take the 4 year old out there while he is visiting. Is it a place or places to take a little one to see the rocks get crawled on. He is into the big trucks. Is the area walkable? Thanks for any help. Will check back later. Computer is in his sleeping area. Nap Time.

I wonder if there is any action over at the stables? that rock arena?

I myself had assumed it was closed as well, but dont know for sure.

The stables are always open year round for business. Johnny has recently gotten into the 4X4 section of his buisness but it is by no means the only thing he does there. Pop on by and talk to him he may or may not let you run your hand at crawling the rocks or going through the pits. Who knows :grinpimp:

Where and what is the Brown Mt. area? Also, years ago There was a road, sort of, that went up to the Linville area. Ben awhile, Anybody know anything about it? It was maybe just a fire road.

Brown MT is near linville but not the road you are talking about. I would however like to know what this road is.

I will do some looking on my county maps. I do remember leaving the falls and heading south, took a wrong turn and it was all down hill from there. Is there maybe a hwy or rr 8 or 18 up that way?

I am pretty sure it was the ridge road that separates McDowell county and Burke county. That was before 1993, and it was not maintained then. I remember the upper part was a little rough, but the lower was just a ride on a ridge.

I think Brown Mountain and Uwharrie have the same schedule close Dec. 15 open April 15... or something like that...

Im pretty sure I have been on that road you are talking about. I was doing some scouting for nice camp sites last year and ended up on a road on the eastern edge of that map you posted. It basicly came down the ridge. I know I was near the town of Globe when I got on that dirt road.
There was another trail I came to that looked like it would be fun to do. I decided not to go farther on it because I was in my F250 and the trail was pretty narrow. I did see two guys coming down the trail in there cool bmw bikes.

I will look in some of my new maps and get better info. I had just moved here when I went so I didnt have maps with me. Just exploring.

The road i was thinking about was just out of Longtown and it looks like it is rr 1238. It just started out as a normal gravel road, then as it got closer to the linville area it turned into a not so traveled one. I will go there again. The 40 is about on the road. The other areas I will get to also. Thanks for the info on the other areas, didn't know they had seasons. New to this side of 77.
