To desmog or not?

I am shipping a half dozen FJ60's to Africa. Question: would you desmog all the vehicles before they left or just keep them original?

Remember they will be used on jungle roads in very rough conditions, there will not be any toyota parts store near by...I will only have replacement brakes, filters, rotors, bulbs, spark plugs on hand.

Well it really depends on the condition of the smog equipment. If everything works right, just buy a few cheapie smog pumps from napa, since I think those are usually first to go.

Also make sure the rest of the stuff doesn't have rust holes (air rail, egr, blah blah). Go ahead and buy a few miles of new vacuum lines and stuff along the lines.

Just remember, a desmoged engine doesn't run any better then a stock one with fully operational smog equipment.

If you have the ability and the time or simply just the money to get the desmogs done I would do it. I run hunts in Mexico and its difficult to find parts down there so I like things to be as simple as possible when I go down.

Its merely an inconvenience for me to have to make a run from Mexico to the States for some parts, I cannot imagine what it would be like in Africa if you cant find what you need.

The previous poster said a smogged engine runs the same as a desmogged engine, if thats the case desmog it and have fewer parts to potentially replace
