to convert or not to convert?

Cost, I am sure it play some factor. If not I would always go SBC or better yet BBC!

You will hear that it costs TOO much to rebuild the old 2f and you can buy several 350's for the same amount of money. Which, in some cases may be true but you need to consider:

350 Adapters like belhousing, cross memebers
350 Motor Mounts
Drive shaft mods (if needed)
Linkages
and some rewire work

I thought about it all and almost went SBC but in the end decided to freshen up a used 2f, rebuild head, have Jim C. rebuild the carb, slap on some headers and I am still under 700 bucks!

Both are good options but for a DD I would go 2f for the money, but if money is no concern for you I would throw in a 350 Ram Jet EFI motor with a NV4500 and Dual Cases!

WELL WE CAN DREAM CANT WE?!!

Good Luck-

75 mph in a FJ40? wow! that's pretty good. I have a 75 with approximately 40K on a rebuilt motor that will go 75 but it sounds like the things fixing to blow up. I have never gone over that with fresh tune up, filters and all that stuff. That is why I bought another one and am in the middle of a 350 conversion. I drove a buddies converted cruiser and it was great. I don't use it as a daily driver but you can get run over in Tx going 60 down I35 so that's why I have one bone stock and the other for driving to big shell or just to the lake. Converting is all personal choice. I luckily came accross the second one at a steal and picked up a rebuilt 350 for under 500 bux so I went for it. I cant wait to get it running and cruise around. I am getting ready to do a mini disc conversion so if anyone wants the old drum parts shoot me a email and we can work something out. Also probably going to get rid of the hard top, it's in pretty bad shape but usable.

IMO V-8, cheaper rebuild, parts available, ect
