Sent a message to Matt. site is down

Up and running again. Give it another try.

I tried it today, I went to the main page, logged in, selected auto renew, went to a sign up form I filled it out and hit go so it says for new members only I should sign in, so I sign in and then go to auto renew, I click again and it goes to the form, I fill out the form again selecting renew, I hit go. it says again, that it's for new members only, so I go around twice more, no good, can I just mail it in, it used to be so simple, so let me know, cheers, Larry

Hi Larry,

Try emailing TLCA Webmaster Matt Farr directly at tlca.webmaster@gmail.com

There have been a few issues I am aware of with the Joomla software that runs the web site, and it would be helpful to both get your renewal squared away and learn from it so others don't have the same problem.

Thanks and happy cruisin'!

Good to see it's not me. I renewed online last night for the first time, and thought my account was fudged. :meh:

Direct email from TLCA webmaster Matt Farr this afternoon:

The TLCA web site was attacked again. I spoke to BlueHost and they
will no longer reactivate our account, even after fixing the hack
attack and securing our web site. It looks like the point of entry
(this time) was the Dada Mail script that we used to send out the
emails about the BRC offer and the request for tech questions. We have
now been attacked 4 times in about 4 months, and they have a "three
strikes and you're out" rule.

Unfortunately, since they won't turn our account back on, extracting
the data from the web site is going to be more difficult that it might
be otherwise. I have access to the database, so I will do my best to
back everything up. Thankfully, we backed up the entire Joomla system
last Friday, so it will be relatively easy to recreate.
<snip internal TLCA stuff>

We have now been attacked through the Joomla system and Dada Mail. I
think Zen Cart has been a target in the past as well.

To make matters worth, I am on vacation this week with my family at
Disney World. We have saved and planned for this vacation for many
months. I'll get started on backing up all of our stuff, but I will
not be able to spend every waking hour on this until I get back on
Feb. 1. Our account will be deleted by BlueHost on Feb. 11th, so we do
have a little time to extract all our data.

Now you guys know what we know. Obviously this is quite serious, and will be doing everything reasonably possible to serve membership's needs. If you want to join or renew, call Jennifer at (800) 655-3810, or email her at tlca.admin@gmail.com. My contact info is in every issue of Toyota Trails as well, and I will be happy to take your calls or emails.

Sorry for the inconvenience, we H8 bad guys.

[Insert Newb Question and Commentary Here]

OK, so let me understand this, the TLCA site's been hacked 4 times in 4 months, and BlueHost is the hosting site.

OK, how about some accountability because irregarless of TLCA's operating systems, ultimately it is on the host provider to provide a qualified and secure environment, correct? We have Joomla based software in a site I am a part of and have had hacks also, but host security and monitoring are, IMHO, part of what you would be giving clients with at least a minimum package.

Seems to me aside from the hacker(s), BlueHost needs a swift kick in the butt and there needs to be a better host found. Passing it all off as a 3 strikes rule tells me they are a crap hosting service without the experience or knowledge to provide a good site environment.

In other words, not to bash on Jeff, or anyone else, but WTF, this does not make TLCA look good at all, especially in my eyes as I have a supporting link to it in my signature, which can now be interpreted as..

"Support TLCA, because we sure can't figure out our own site."

Now, just to hammer this nail I am holding all the way through, whenever you consider using a business or entity, try looking up their name, but put "suck" or "sucks" after it. This came up in less than a second:

Bluehost Sucks! User Experiences with Bluehost Hosting

TLCA can do better. What is the amount of storage space required? What are the alternatives? How much would it benefit to have a dedicated server w/ a decent amount of security and monitoring?

Yes, that would be an expense..strike that, an investment that would have to be made to pay itself off in a reasonably short amount of time.

Ross, if you see this, think about mentioning my input about physically interacting with opposition too in preservation and maintenance repairs of trails, etc, as these are all things that will help TLCA be shown as a more legitimate entity with not just the opposing "Green Leafers" but those we deal with for access.

*Man, I hope Del see's this too??

I have a dedicated server thru HostGator for my web-site. Never been hacked & had it for 5 years.

have heard good stuff on HostGator

Total Server Solutions is also very good...I use them for Management/Monitoring and their '15 minute response time' has never been that long...

iWeb is NOT good...pathetic customer service...

You're preaching to the choir here Norcal. I am in 100% agreement.

At Rising Sun we also use hostgator, and since Matt is the webmaster of Rising Sun's site, that may be a direction he will consider. AFAIK, we haven't had any issues with hostgator since we switched to them a little over a year ago.

on a good note, iWeb just credited my card for almost $600...fastest service I got from them...

not sure why this was the most effective....6 emails tonite regarding the credits tho...

not even ONE contained a 'sorry you chose to not continue your contract'

idiots...

I just stuck mine in the mail today, Cheers, Larry

BTW when I linked to the TLCA site, I thought I was ousted for not renewing, my bad,

FWIW...I use godaddy hosting services and have yet to have a single issue in 3 years. Price is right as well.
