Yes a good old opinion thread. I need some new tires. I've had Nitto Terra Grapplers and they've done very well and lasted 50k+.

I want something a little more aggressive but not mud tire wear, so any suggestions?

I know there's the GY DuraTrac (sidewall complaints), the Cooper ST MAXX (some ads say they have a 65k warranty I don't see that on the Cooper website), SAMs club has a couple of off brands that have varying reviews the Fierce Attitude MT (made by GY looks like a DuraTrac knockoff) and the Greenball Kanati Trail Hog. I also like the Nitto Trail Grapplers but I hear they wear quickly.

I know this is a whole can of works so I figured I'd ask here for first hand experiences.

the discoverer AT3 gets very good reviews, doesn't look as aggressive though. I went with the discount tire version (ATP) of it and have liked them so far.

You might also want to look at the general grabber AT2.

Those were my top two choices before I blew the tire and impulse bought the ATPs. ST MAXX would have been my choice if money was no object.

x2 on generals.
the ATIIs might not be "more aggressive" than the Nittos. but I think they do better than the BFGATs, which I have had on two different vehicles. I know they are similar, but grabbers perform better in my experience. I have run a set for over 50k miles, and just put a set on the frontier.

Found ST MAXX for $250 and Nitto TG G2 (50k warranty for $240)

Too many tires out there.

Well I just got a great quote for a set of Toyo Open Country AT2's which come with a 50k warranty so may have just made my mind up.

The BFG will give you the aggressive look a whole lot more than anything else. They will not perform any different, but if "looks" is what you want...
And they wear great as well...

Well it was determined that the highest and best use of my time this afternoon was procuring sleds rather than getting tires. So I guess I will wait and make a decision on tires after the snow.

I'm not really a BFG fan. As much driving as I've been doing I like the tread warranty. That being said, I'm honestly leaning Duratracs.

Oh, it's a road tire? Why not Daytons?

D's and a rubba hamma

John Ed had Duratracs on his 100, and I had them on my 80. Great tire and the road noise was only noticeable at a few MPH sweetspots, I couldn't hear mine at HWY speeds.

Pretty sure my Tacoma is getting Duratracs.

What kind of mileage did you see On the DT's? I'm gonna need tires probably around summer time and if I can get 60k+ out of a set I might consider a change from the KO's.

I didn't put more than 5-6k miles on my set, I doubt John Ed put more than that either....with 5 tires/wheels I don't know how you couldn't get 60k out of a set.

I couldn't hold back any further, couldn't deny it any further; I can't not be like Tripp, I've got KO2's coming next week.

My KO's just tripped 70k miles, so I actually called today to get a set of KO2's ready to install on Saturday. I bet I could've gotten 80k out of them if I'd rotated them better. Make sure you get the rebate form. BFG has a $70 mail-in-rebate that is good on purchases thru 6/14.

Here's the thing about BFG All-Terrains: are they the best off-roading tire out there? No. Technology has advanced since they were introduced in the 80s (I believe that's correct) and the KO2s are attempting to catch up with that, and even then, in a serious off-road situation, particularly one with lots of rocks, they still may not even come out on top. For the better part of 20 years though, I'd be willing to bet that they were the gold standard of all terrain tires. For people like me, who drive offroad just a handful of times each year, but like the assurance of having an AT tire when we do, I think that they're a good choice, especially considering how well they wear. I don't recall having read about any Duratracs or Nittos that have 70K miles on them like the set of BFGs that @jynx has been running, but hey, I could be wrong. Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one who considers appearance when buying a set of tires, and to me, I think the ATs look damn good on just about any truck.

Agree 100% Truthfully as much asphalt as mine see, I'd be better served with a true road tire like a michilien or similar, but just can't do it. Besides between Erin and I we have had 4 or 5 sets and all have knocked on 70k or better, which is close to what a lot of "high mileage" tires promote. I looked at the Duratracs really hard, but couldn't find anyone who could say they'd gotten more than 45k - 50k out of them. I average 30k per year on the road and can't be buying tires every year.

I'm a believer in having the right tire for your use. I have MT's on the cruisers and the sami cause they gotta slung a little mud and bite a rock from time to time.

When I get a good tow-rig and go all Caddywhompus (sp?) On Bruce I'm gonna go after some Maxxis creepies or km2 stickies, cause Ima be like @Land Speeder and show dem buggies how the wagon wheels roll.
