I am planning on getting a Dobinsons IMS 2" lift for my 2004 470. I would also like to get larger tires that I would not need to do a body mount chop for. I can deal with some liner or bumper trimming. What are the forum members' experience with 2 inch lifts? What wheel offset and tire size has worked well and resulted in not needing a BMC?
PS
I'm not interested in 265/70R17 tires as that woukd be a minimal upgrade over stock.

This is a table for stock height. A little info to get you started. Figure if you have a 2" lift you can fit some 33s but there are lots of threads woth useful tidbits if you look around.

Height gain values are inaccurate and should be divided by two. Other than that thanks for this handy table.
You are correct. The column header is misleading - it is height gain for the tire. For truck height gain, divide by two.

From what Ive been reading, its sounds like if we go above 32.5, with our trucks, even with a 2 inch lift, there may be some amount of additional modification involved to fit them. Not a lot for 33" but some.

I'm willing to do anything but a body mount chop. :)

Lots of folks on here have run a BMC, myself included. It's simple and easy and solves the problem. I didn't need a BMC with a 265/70R17, but did with a 285/70R15. You might be able to skip it with a skinny tire like a 255/80R17, but it's not guaranteed.

If you want to run a 33" or larger on one of these rigs, be prepared to chop. If a chop is 100% off the table, stick with something <33". There is only so much real estate in the cramped GX wheelwell to work with.

I think I'll go with 275/70R17, which is a 32" tire. It should fill the wheel well better once I lift, but won't be as big as a 285.

I was running 285/70R17 Nitto ridge grapplers without a BMC and no rub.

However, I was on 3.7* caster with total chaos UCAs and no front sway bar on 17x9 -12 wheels and later 17x7.5 zero offset wheels.

No rubbing at all. But hen I went 34s and all hell broke loose

I bet 34s are a pain.
Am I correct in assuming that the more negative the offset, the greater the chance of rubbing?

34s are supposed to be not as bad as 35s like you can keep your fender liners to protect the air intake opening, but require BMC, require hammering the pinch welds, and more hammering and trimming.

And yes, the more negative the offset, the more rubbing. Negative offset increases your scrub radius.

I would say that a zero to +15mm offset stresses less your wheel bearings and the kingpin axis is not disturbed as much.

But many people like fat tires with a -38 offset which gives you the IG looks but rubs like hell and changes the kingpin axis quite a bit to stress out ball joints, bushings, and knuckle.
