Hi all,

Looking for (dreaming) new tires for my '87 JDM BJ74 auto. Little bit of a slug with the auto, and I know that bigger tires would make it worse. My question is, is it the taller tire that makes it so hard to push? Or is it the width? Or both?

Right now I have 31x10.5x15, and they look puny on my BJ74 especially with the new OME lift. I know if i ran 33x112.5.15's I'd noticed a difference cause its taller AND wider, but what if I went 33x10.5x15, skinnys, or even 9.5 wide? Would there still be a siginificant amount of weight to push with just a taller tire?

Its both.
Larger diameter changes the ratios...
Wider tyres, more rubber, more weight to spin.

Ive run 285/75/16's MT's on an old 75 troopy 1HZ.... it was never going to be a rocket ship to start off with so the bit of added slugishness was worth the extra rubber when the going got tough.

I run the 33x10.5 on my 70 and they seem to work well. I like the military tall/skinny look also.
