I am looking for some advice on a new set of tires for my 2000 4Runner with an OME 3" lift. I am currently running 265/70/r16 BFG ATs and really like them. I would like to go with a bit larger tire (around 33" or equivalent). I have looked at the 255/85 and 285/75 and am leaning towards the 255/85 but it doesn't look like I can get that size in the AT's. I can find it for the MT's though. I would prefer the narrower tire, but am unsure that I want MT's as I do a lot of on highway travel to get to the sites where I 4 wheel. Any suggestions from people who have used these tires or suggestions on other brands? Also would I need to regear if I went with the larger tires (I have a manual transmission).

Thanks for the help.

Stock rims? I doubt you could go larger than a 285/75/16 with 4.5" backspacing without rubbing the UCAs, frame or bumper.

I just bought a set of Goodyear Duratracs in that size for my Tundra, great tire in rain, mud and snow, and it's quiet on the road. They look aggressive too. I put a set on my wife's Pathy to boot.

285/75-16's on stock wheels will run the UCA. 255's will fit just fine. You're going to zap a fair amount of power when moving up to the larger/heavier rubber with stock gears.

I have run both 31's and 33's with my OME lift and there is not that big of a difference in power loss with the 3.4 and 4.10's. Not enough to justify the cost of new gears. I am currently running 33 BFG KM2's and they do get noisy after a bit, so if you want a quiet ride to the trails stick with the AT.
