I have a 2006 LC100 that had an AHC failure a while ago. Replaced it with a 2" Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro Stage 2 kit. I love the kit, and still find the ride extremely comfortable. It's time for new tires, and I have my eyes on some Toyo Open Country A/T 3 LT265/70R18.

Toyo only has this size in either load capacity SL or E, and I'm thinking SL won't be good for when I want to begin adding mods like a front bumper, tent, etc.

My question is, will the LT tires with load capacity E give me too rough of a ride? I've read that it won't be as nice on the road and that "especially with the LC100" I should stray away. This is my daily vehicle and my family vehicle, so I do drive it quite a bit.

Thanks for any help!

Get the right tool for the job.

IMO 75+% of the people on here don't need the LT tires they have on their rigs. (some sizes only come in LT's which sucks)
The SL's will almost guarantee be fine.

Be honest.
What kind of conditions will it see most of the time? (No, graded dirt roads do not count as "off road")
What's going to happen first? Wear out and need new tires or all the extra parts you plan to add.

E's are mainly needed for the extra sidewall protection from things that might cut/puncture it. (at least with these trucks)
Less for the extra load carrying capacity. (Unless you actually get to the point where you need that)

But yes, they will ride harsher and kill more MPG. Not alot of mileage but enough to notice.

I hear ya. I am by no means an off-roader/overlander, and the few trips I have done have been easy dirt roads to camp sites.

This will be on pavement 95% of the time. Not only that, I also don't drive a lot due to being able to work from home full-time with little travel. It's used as a family vehicle for trips and such, but a big goal is to do more camping and eventually overlanding.

I do want 33" tires, but again the E is what kind of makes me iffy on it. I agree I don't need E, but most tires in this size only come in E. If I did go SL, I definitely would not wear out the tires before I began to add mods because like I said, I don't drive a ton. These tires will last quite a while regardless of what I buy. I am also looking at LT275/70R18 Toyo AT3s, but again it seems to only come in E.

I personally never noticed the difference between the tire load ratings when I had a Jeep. Different application though. Many people with 100s on the forum definitely feel the difference though. General Grabbers makes a 33” SL tire. Great reviews too.

I probably wouldn’t let the load rating stop me from buying the tires I want since I too work from home. I’m only looking for 275/65/18 though which Mickey Thompson makes in SL luckily :)
