Tire groover rednecked upgrade

I’ve had a little tire groover for a while and wanted to have options for various cutting widths more than the 1/4” head it came with.

Today I cut up a flat brass scrap piece to make a couple of 1/8” shims for 3/8” and 1/2” can’t wait to try it out.

I also made new blade clamps out of angle so I can deepen existing voids without going too deep.

I have the same Ideal tire groover. It seems to me the extra metal around the brass head would be a heat sink & take away needed temperature from the blade (?). Maybe it doesn't You tried it yet?

I had the same groover as well. Used it to sipe some Maxxis Creepies. Worked great!

I’ve been to busy lately trying to get the 80 going to be able to play with the groover yet. Hopefully I’ll get to try it out soon.

Well, I finally got around to trying out the groover mod. Once it’s warmed up it goes pretty well!

My test subject is a 33x13.50/16 swamper LTB.

I use a propane tank top heater, single burner to help me heat the tire up. Sometimes I use a torpedo heater in the winter to help. When the tire starts to stink hot, that little grooves doesn’t have to work near as hard.
