On my 1999 Hundy I'm running 305/70's, the predominant advice is to run 285/75's. The sidewall height is the same, the weight is 2 lbs different. Is there really that much difference in performance between the 285s and the 305s? I ask because I absolutely need to replace 3 tires, with 1 brand new 305, I'd just as soon stay with that size..
thanks in advance

You decide - biggest difference is width - about an inch:

Hi All,

What do you use your 100 Series for? This should guide your tire choice.

If you take the truck off pavement a lot, especially on sand the wider tire (305/70) would have more potential flotation than the narrower tire (285/75).

If the truck is a mall cruiser then go with the narrower tires; they will steer easier and probably get (slightly) better fuel mileage.

Alan

thanks for the replies. I bought the truck as a Baja runner, my wife and I go to Todos Santos in the winter. I can't say it will spend MOST of its time on rough road and in sand, but it will SOME of the time, and I think I want to err on the side of not getting in trouble between San Felipe and Guerrero Negro.
I have to say the truck drives fine on the 305s, a little sensitive to crosswinds but overall good. Also, even without correcting for diameter/rotation per mile, I getting between 14 and 15 mpg overall, which makes me very happy, esp after 10-12 with the FJ80
