Fellow mudders,

What do you recommend to clean these TRD alloys 17x8 ? Below pics will give you an idea of their condition. I'm purchasing them 2nd hand and they have been used for few years..

Appreciate all suggestions from Steve the monkey level and upwards ,,, ;)

Without having any idea as to the parts stores around you, they carry all different types of spray on wheel cleaners for all different types of wheels. As long as the wheel is aluminum they have a cleaner for it. Don't get the etching stuff. Isn't Autozone worldwide?

When cleaning the inside (back side is not clear coated) of the wheel Castrol Super Clean works well. Warning: Wet the wheel first front and back. Spray Super Clean on the back side only and scrub with a wheel brush. DO NOT let the Super Clean dry on the clear coat because it will dull the clear coat. Hose the whole wheel off and repeat if necessary. I do not recommend using it on the clear coated front side of the wheel. The front should not need anything this strong to keep them looking good. I clean the back of all my rims every time I rotate the tires and they still look great. The key is to not let the Castrol dry on the surface.

If you need or want to use a spray on the front side use something like Simple Green or 409, they do a good job and are not as strong as the Castrol.

Good luck and BTW those wheels look great.

I'm in Saudi / so perhaps a bit limited with fancy brands or variety - will check the local markets.

Hey Crashn, thanks a lot for the tips / ill look into Castrol Super and the Simple Green/409er too. Hope I can find them locally. Glad you liked the wheels. A fellow mudder took good care of them before handing them to me ;)

- Simple Green Cleaner Degreaser
- 3M degreaser foam engine
- Cyclo degreaser engine clean

@maujkar:

Just to keep you motivated, here's what they'll look like when you finally put them on your 200:

Hi, I'm impressed you guys have time to clean the wheels, I barely have time for just the maintaince. But when I do the 3M products are good. Mike

Got around this weekend for cleaning these rims and am thoroughly impressed with the results ! Got these products in the end:
1) simple green MAX degreaser
2) wheel n tire shampoo / some brand called Mothers (?)

Sprayed the degreaser over the entire rim, they were cool n dry, let the degreaser work for couple of minutes , then soaked it with wheel shampoo and scrubbed all over with the fiber cloth. Check out the pics !

maujkar,

Your Private Message folder is full so I could not answer your PM. The lug nuts you are looking for are available from the same supplier you are ordering your installation kit from:

Hope that is what you are looking for.

thanks Gaijin,
I actually need lug nuts for 5 wheels, i have one rear mounted..so this kit won't do good. Can you share the dimensions of the lug nut, they are 14mm spline but the length? quick search shows few 14mm spline available at summitracing and other sites, thanks for your help.
cheers

One of these which you said in your PM you are already buying:

http://www.oempartworld.com/trd-performance/wheels/2480_PTR27-60110

And one of these for the spare:

http://www.oempartworld.com/trd-performance/wheels/2473_PTR27-34070

I think the size is 14mm x 1.5 which means you could buy other non-TRD lug nuts like these:

http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Automotive-26145HT-Diameter-Duplex/dp/B00280B6SK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_3

However, there is not much clearance in the lug area of the wheels:

and I would be uncomfortable recommending anything other than the TRD lug nuts.

Here is a pic of the TRD lug nuts for size if that helps:

Also note that the TRD lug nuts have a moveable cone where they contact the wheel - no other aftermarket lug nuts have this feature.

Does that answer your question?

thanks a lot for elaboration Gaijin,
TRDs will run unto 200+$, hence i thought about other good alternates of 14mm spline nuts..
cheers
