Just did one on mine a while back, not the funnest job. I bought all my stuff from Toyota. Would recomend a toyota manual for your truck if you dont already have one. It'll come in handy. The only problam I came across was getting the pan off to get the chain out. Realy dont know any trick for that and just ended up removing the front diff body mount bolts to drop it down. And dont forget to put the 12mm bolt for the oil housing cover back in, or else it'll leak oil(I made that mistake ). Good luck!

I used altrom parts when I did my chain about a year and a half ago. If I was to do it again though, I would go with the engnbldr.com kit. Do what you have to do to make sure that bolts go back exactly where they came from. Putting back bolts that are too long will go right through the cover and then you are back to square one. I believe the 12mm bolt that bh4rnnr is reffering to is the one at the very front of the head when you remove the valve cover. It is vertically securing the cylinder head to the the timing cover. The bolt head will be hidden in a small pool of oil.

Sorry, was talking about the one behind the pully. During the whole time while putting it back couldnt remember where it whent. Once I fired it up, I then relized where it whent. As for the on bolt in the front of the cylinder head, yes dont forget about that!(it's usaul coverd up with oil). SizzleChest is right about the bolts, you'll end up waisting a lot of time trying to remember where they go if you dont somehow mark them when you take them off.

If the chain guides are intact you don't have to remove the pan.
FSM calls for pulling the head. Not necessary, but it can be a pain to get the cover back on with the head in place. I used silicon sealer on this job several months ago and don't have any problems.

I pulled the timming chain wothout pulling the head. Unfortianetly it started leaking at the gasket shortly after. I pearsonaly recomend pulling the head, takes a little bit of extra time but worth it in the long run............

Did you put a dab o' silicone at the corner of the timing cover where it meets the block and HG? I always do this and have never had a problem/leak..

No I didnt use any silicone when I put it back on, never even new about that trick.
