Timing Belt change after 30K or 8 years? Age or Mileage more important?

Who wants to make that bet and wait? If you live in the desert I would not wait.

Exactly why i did it now. I knew the belt looked good but you cant see the idlers or wp from the top covers. Good thing i chose to do it now. Wp was just starting to leak.

I understand, I live in Vegas and the Lexus dealership does not include front wheel bearing repacks in any of their normal service intervals. My new to me LX was serviced by them since it was new and with 107k miles on it. I think it needs to have the front wheel bearing repack and so I am taking it to the local Toyota shop that was recommended by fellow Mud members to get the job done. Just does not seem right not to do the repack, even if it has been a desert owned 100 series.

:meh: I would. The data is overwhelmingly in your favor of not panicking, desert or not...

Agreed, although its generally a good idea to stick with the FSM specs for replacement intervals. That said, here's one example of an original TB which was at 230K miles when I replaced it:
- light surface cracking, but perfectly sound and no sign of weakness
- Edges were clean and square
- its hanging in my shop. Remarkable performance deserves recognition.
