Cold start. Low ticking sound. Becomes much louder if I put it in gear right away. The noise goes away soon. Motor runs really well, after that.

Sounds like a lifter. Problem is, she does not have lifters - lol

What motor? Sounds like it could be an exhaust manifold leak. Or a lifter if it's a VVTi motor.

The noise has departed, after a couple oil changes with shell rotella-t 15w40. Good Stuff!

Older Tundras had issues with cracks in the exhaust manifold. Mine would tick on start and go away when warm. Replaced mine with jba headers. great upgrade.

Sounds like low oil preasure due to old oil...therefore it stopped after chanfing it, chances are your engine has lots of miles on it

Same here. My 02 does this.
