Ticking noise under the 4X4 shifter? (1 Viewer)

This was asked to NLXTACY regarding his thread in the 80 series tech forum. There was no answer what caused it. Did you ever get to the bottom of the ticking noise under your shifter/ My 07 FJ just made that noise 10 min ago. First it was quite loud, I pulled over expecting to see rope or wire wrapped around my drive shaft. Non was found and no markes anywere front or rear drive shafts not at front axles. The noise has dropped to the level of yours now with only 5 miles after the louder noise. I am a mechanic and a little puzzled. I know its not low Tcase oil as I changed that 1000mi ago, was fairly clean. I have 140,000 miles on the truck. Any help would be great. Regards, Andy
