I have a '99 with 110K miles on it. I've recently noticed that it doesn't fire right up when the engine is cold, cranking over a little longer than usual before it starts. I did a complete T-belt job including plugs and all filters about 15K miles ago so I'm concerned with those items. A couple days ago, the wife was driving it and told me the check engine light started flashing while she was driving it. When I got home, I put the scanner on it got one code, P0307, which is "Cylinder 7 misfire detected" When I started the truck, it fired right up but the RPMs dipped down to about 400 right after start up and then back up to the normal ~800 idle speed. Check engine light was not on for me. I have not taken it for a drive to see if i can detect anything.

Any ideas? My first suspicion is maybe a dirty or bad injector. My second suspicion is maybe a bad coil/ignitor on #7. I'm planning to put some Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube/Injector Cleaner in her this weekend with a full tank of fuel to see what happens. Any other suggestions? I've got the FSM so I can probably do some tests on the ignitor to see if it meets spec.

Incidentally, I recently received a postcard in the mail from Toyota referring to a recall on all Toyota's with drive-by-wire systems and if I experienced troubles with the throttle, I should take it to Toyota and they will repair/replace the throttle-motor unit. I need to read that card in more detail so I fully understand what it's talking about.

I think I'll pick up the 2 coil packs Dan The Man has in stock at American Toy on my way home. Damn I'm lucky to live in the same town as the Shaman. I'll replace the bad one and have a spare for the future. Hopefully it's the more common coil pack problem and not the less common injector failure. Otherwise I'll have 2 spares.

Truck's running good again with a new Ignition Coil on Cyl #7. And I've got a spare for the next time one of them goes out.

MarcFJ60. Can you please let us know what the recall card says about the Throttle Motor recall? Years affected, etc. I recently had a code for mine, but after I cleared it, the code didn't come back. (not yet anyway)

I read the card in more detail. It is a very lengthy notice of a possible settlement in a class action lawsuit related to Electronic Throttle Control Systems. If you read the entire thing, it basically states that upon final approval of the settlement, Toyota will extend a warranty for no less than 3 years, and up to 150,000 miles for repairs to the engine control module, cruise control switch, accelerator pedal assembly, stop lamp switch and throttle body assembly.

Go to www.ToyotaELSettlement.com for more details.
