I have a '99 with 110K miles on it. I've recently noticed that it doesn't fire right up when the engine is cold, cranking over a little longer than usual before it starts. I did a complete T-belt job including plugs and all filters about 15K miles ago so I'm concerned with those items. A couple days ago, the wife was driving it and told me the check engine light started flashing while she was driving it. When I got home, I put the scanner on it got one code, P0307, which is "Cylinder 7 misfire detected" When I started the truck, it fired right up but the RPMs dipped down to about 400 right after start up and then back up to the normal ~800 idle speed. Check engine light was not on for me. I have not taken it for a drive to see if i can detect anything.
Any ideas? My first suspicion is maybe a dirty or bad injector. My second suspicion is maybe a bad coil/ignitor on #7. I'm planning to put some Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube/Injector Cleaner in her this weekend with a full tank of fuel to see what happens. Any other suggestions? I've got the FSM so I can probably do some tests on the ignitor to see if it meets spec.
Incidentally, I recently received a postcard in the mail from Toyota referring to a recall on all Toyota's with drive-by-wire systems and if I experienced troubles with the throttle, I should take it to Toyota and they will repair/replace the throttle-motor unit. I need to read that card in more detail so I fully understand what it's talking about.
