  1. The plastic trim over the fake wood trim is peeling up badly. Around the console and on the passenger air vent. What can be done to replace or fix this? Its broken off in places and looks like sheet!!
  2. I bought after MKT speakers a couple of years ago and the rear ones sound busted. I forget the brand, but they were pretty good. I didn't replace the amp. Its not like I blast it real loud....but disappointed....hoping it could be a wiring issue? I know, kind of vague description of problem.
  3. Should I change the Timing Belt ASAP...or around 90K or 100K? I don't wheel it and only put about 8K on it a year.
Thanks for your thoughts!

1) I would think at this point you should either remove the faux wood, if you don't like that look, or replace it with something else which is obviously less cost effective than my first suggestion. Many have removed their wood and love the look. I personally like my truck a little dolled up with the wood trim but I'm going to look into a real wood alternative in the near future.

2) If you aren't really blasting your music then I wouldn't think the speaker is blown, but just in case I suggest removing the grill and checking the cone for tears. Since you say you got the speakers only a couple of years ago I would kind of doubt they are worn out already.

3) 90k is a general guideline, but is suggested. You don't need to be rolling into the shop at 90,000 miles but you probably shouldn't be pushing it like I am at over 100k since the last change. I'm well overdue but I'm getting it addressed ASAP. Generally this is maintenance you don't want to defer for too long or else it will absolutely bite you in the ass.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm not very "handy"....so I don't know what I would do to fix the trim. I agree, I like a good look, but would consider other options....just don't know where to start...I've searched on here about the issue, but didn't find a "simple" resolution on it!

Do you know what you would do to the speaker if the cone is torn? If I took it back to the stereo shop, they'd probably just try to sell me new ones!

Oh, I also put in a back up camera when I got the speakers....pretty cool.

I'm guessing I'll get the TB replaced in the spring. Shouldn't wait too long, b/c the truck is so old! The Stealership tried to get me to change it out a couple of years back b/c it is an older truck....trying to say the belt may be getting stressed/cracked with age.

Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to reply!

If it were me, I'd do the timing belt sometime in the next three years, in conjunction with the water pump. There is a LOT of overhype on the urgency without any supporting evidence... :meh:

General rule for the T-Belt is 90k or 9 years, whichever is first. If you had it on your list for Spring/Summer that should be just fine. Put it on your list, but don't sweat it.

Only one guy on here recently that I've heard about that lost his timing belt. Most look brand new when they are changed. You just don't want to be that one guy :)

So, does the water pump just need to be replaced b/c of age? Or are there any signs of wear/tear that necessitate it?

I haven't done much but change with Mobil sythetic once a year. I probably need to do the 90K "service" along with the TB. It just runs like a champ!!

Thanks for the suggestions! You guys ROCK!
