I got the parts from cruiserparts.net to do my front axle rebuild and oddly enough they sent me three birfs... I was right to only expect two, right? I only see two wheels coming out of the one axle. :p

When I have a chance today or tomorrow I'll try to match everything I got to the parts list posted by Beowulf here:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/1982-front-axle-rebuild-oem-p-ns-here.html#post14813

In the meantime if someone could tell me if what's shown looks about right that would be cool.

Also, it looks like the knuckle rebuild kit came with parts from Nitro Gear and Axle. Timkin or Koyo bearings were recommended... should I just put these to the side?

If you only paid for 2 then.... score!! Sell the 3rd one and make some money back.

If they aren't timken or koyo go to vato zone and pick up a set there or fred anderson toyota up there.

I only see one set of the felt wiper seals, but maybe you just didn't take a pic of the other. I'd upgrade to the rubber wiper seals, but I forget who makes them...

Or, if you only paid for two you could contact the vendor and tell them of the mistake and ask if they would send you a pickup label so you can return the extra.

Darin, I'm not sure what any of it is yet except for the birfs. What's in the Nitro package if those aren't wheel bearings?

Garnerfj40, thanks for the tip. I'll pick up some Bobby Long wiper seals.

As for the birfs, I didn't pay for them (at least not directly). The dealer I bought my 80 from ordered them as part of our negotiations after I discovered I bought a broken truck at a premium. I'm not really facing a moral dilemma, though. I'll do what's right no matter the case. If the dealer paid for all 3 then I'll sell the extra with a clean conscience. Otherwise I'll see that it gets sent back to the vendor.

Those 4 small bearings in the package are your trunion bearings. You still need wheel bearings.

Some people out there will tell you just to repack the originals, but if you are already in there i say replace them that way you have it completely baselined.

Also make sure you get the correct 2 greases. Moly for the Birfs and wheel bearing for the wheel bearings.

by chance do you know or can you tell if they are OEM birfs?

cruiserparts has a sale on AAA birfs ive never heard of but for 110 instead of 410 like oem

Darin are you sure those are trunion bearings? Those bearings look the same diameter as the star washers in the kit....

According to Josh at cruiserparts, they contracted with the oem supplier
(I think he said it was motor fuji or Moto fuji) to make the same parts using the same tools, metals and specs as what Toyota keeps in stock. Maybe someone more knowledgable than me can confirm it?

Brian, Look at the inner holes on both the star and the bearing and you will see how much smaller the holes on the bearings are.

Ahh, I was looking at the ID of the stars and OD of the bearings. You are correct! It's odd that they got packaged in that configuration....
