I am looking at a 2005 lx470 with 80,000 miles on it. It is a 2 owner, the first being a company, it has a clean car fax, but I am worried about a VGRS light and the VSC TRAC / VSC OFF lights are both on. Also when I test drove it, I pulled over and could not get it to go into the high level for the suspension, it would go into low and normal? I am new to the late model LC so looking for advise. The dealer said since the lights were on he would cut the price to 22,500. Does this sound like a keeper or keep looking?

Why buy something with problems? Plenty out there, just keep looking. I've lost two 04 LC's in the last month too others. You have no idea what the problems are and what they will cost too fix!

I've found a handful at auction with the VGRS & VSC TRAC lights on. I'm sure someone else can answer you much more accurately, but what I remember wasnt good news. Something about the VGRS unit being connected to the ECU and VGRS failure either causing or being a sign of impending ECU failure.

Sounds like a good price if the VGRS and AHC was working properly. Tell the dealer you'll agree to the price if he has your local Lexus dealer fix those items and inspect the rest of the truck.

Could be a deal but I'd really want to see the codes associated with the VGRS light and AHC. Re VGRS could be as simple as the system requires a steering angle recalibration and/or a zero point calibration - quick and easy jobs within techstream. AHC not lifting to High is indicative of a system that's in need of help - could be the coils are really tired and the TBs have never been adjusted to compensate for age and the neutral pressures are way too high now, which is to be expected on many/most AHC vehicles that haven't been maintained properly. So these two issues may be cheap and quick fixes or a real can of worms, before dropping $22.5k I'd get a comprehensive PPI done by someone who is very familiar with AHC and VGRS equipped LCs/LXs.

My thoughts on that lx470 are the same as my thoughts on any lx470. Stay away because they all have AHC. Sure you can remove the whole thing and add regular suspension. But thats $$$, and repairs are $$$ too. I like to keep things simple. Find an LC; AHC was not offered up to 05 and only an option on 06-07.

Not sure about the AHC perspective. I still have mine, and it's working fine at 190K miles with all the added weight of bumpers, rack, drawers, and aux fuel tank. I have only had to change the fluid twice, trouble free otherwise.

There is a massive amount of misinformation about AHC. I do think had it been offered on the LC here as it was ROW, there would not be such a mall cruiser/soccer mom/Lexus stigma about it.

Just to make sure , when putting in H , was it under the 18 (I think) MPH cutoff where if higher it stays in N. Generally, if the AHC is messed up, it stays in L. The TCS/VSC is far more worrying...

I thought you could only put it in high if the transfer case was in low range?
