I'm told I should get a Cherokee or some other cheap platform but since I was Googling about overlanding and saw the Expedition Portal GX470 I've been in love.

On a budget because I have a daily driver. Found a GX470 with 202k miles but complete service records. Slightly shabby cosmetically but drives well. One long-time owner. It's a sport package.

I realize the miles are super high but ask is $8000. I think I could get it for less too. What do y'all think? Would start with addressing minor cosmetic stuff (the dash is cracked but looks like Lexus will fix it?) What would you first 5-10 steps be to start the overland journey? I enjoy wrenching on cars - came to it in my 30's but it's fun and I enjoy it. Have a salvage Evo 8 so I'm Ok with getting my hands dirty. Thanks!

Sounds like a good deal with complete service records. Was the T-belt and water pump replaced?

Sounds like a deal to me. I just bought an 05 non-sport with KDSS and 179k for $8150. Had I found that one, I would've been quite interested - I prefer the Sport interior.

One owner with full service records is the best you can ask for when buying a high mileage vehicle. I have the same GX, 2005 with the sport package and I love it! Just be ready for things to go out, like the alternator and secondary air injection system like my GX did, but the 2uzfe is good for 300k+ if properly taken care of.

OK I'll research the alternator and air injection stuff. but yeah, ONLY considering it because it's a Lexus and 2UZFE. Figure drive until 300k and if it's still running look into rebuild options.

Someone on the GXOR Facebook group recently posted a Dorman replacement air pump for about $100 - alternatively there's a block off kit out there.

Alternator isn't a huge deal - they're not all that pricey.

Thinking of doing rear airbag eliminator anyway so down goes that problem :-)

Anything else to look for that's a huge warning sign on a 200k Lexus? My buddy is looking at this for me remote
