I have a friend who will sell me his Icom 901A and wanted some thoughts on installing it in or FJ40.
I'm new to the ham world and have a kenwood tri bander handheld now.
Is there a newer smaller unit that would be a better fit in a 40 or since I can pick this one up would it be worth it.
What would a fair price be for a 901A. I beleive it has three bands but not sure what they are.
Thanks
Ken

It's an older discontinued model but there's no reason why it wouldn't work well in a 40. The base model was dual-band, 2M and 70CM (440) but these were expandable to 6M, 10M, and maybe some others. It sold for $900+ when new, don't know what one is worth now but I'd think a very substantial discount would be in order since it is discontinued and you can get a nice current model Icom dual-band with way more memories for under $400.

Just need to think about where you're going to mount the radio, the face plate, mic, and antenna but you have several options.
