My 2003 LC 3rd row driver'sside seating is stuck won't release unless i grab
what looks like a bicycle brake cable with a pair of pliers.... Anyone out there know how to fix this or is a new 3rd row seat in order?

If there's one thing that's not hard to find for a Land Cruiser, it's the 3rd row seats. Check the classified sections or craigslist in your area. I've seen them go for almost FREE on both. Did yours ever work?

do you pull your seats in/out all the time? sounds like the cable broke off or came loose from the release handle somehow. should be a simple fix with a cable clamp or similar device as it's a very simple release mechanism for that release mechanism. i'd assume the problem will be obvious if you compare your two seats side by side. regardless, a new seat would be my last resort as well...."Whaddya mean a beanbag chair isn't a sufficient 3rd row seat, Officer?"

Thanks for you input

@paflytyer,yes the seats have always worked, and are/is in good condition.
i will try the cable clamp fix, suggested by highonpottery.

I just took a quick look at mine. Seems like a basic cable/release system. Is the cable broken? If you have your other seat for comparison, there is a little ball at the end of the cable which holds the cable into the harness. Very similar to a bicycle brake cable. I will take a better look at how it's put together tomorrow and I can snap some pics if you don't have the other seat to compare it to.

Even if you couldn't get that part from Toyota, I bet it wouldn't be too hard to fab something up that would work without spending very much $$. Let me know if pics would help.

I have a 2000 Landcruiser and for the past two years have kept the third row seats down because the straps don't hold them in the upright position (they bounce all around when taking corners). I assume I need new straps but does anyone have any suggestions on how fix? thanks

Same problem. Super glue and new velcro from michaels. Got it on sale with the wife's sunday coupon. Like new now.
Just glue on the velcro on the old straps. Cheers.

Same issue but fixed

I had an upholstery shop put in two snap in buttons on each strap. Been 10 years with no issues.

Brought my sewing machine out to the truck and sewed on new velcro.
That was on my 2000. On the 2004, the original velcro seems to keep much better.

Currently have both these issues on my 01.
RE the cable - my cable is not snapped - the failure to release is due to a broken plastic elbow on the articulating bar that's supposed to pull the cable back. Since the plastic is gone, the bar just slides through. If anyone has a quick fix or knows where to go those elbows, I'd love to know - for now I just keep a pair of pliers in the car.

Like the sewing Velcro option for the seats banging around. Just waiting for frustration to overcome laziness.
