Thinking about selling my 100 - thoughts?

An RL? I recently drove an RL and was completely unimpressed with the drive! The technology was great no doubt but the drive was somewhat boring and bland. I expected much more to be honest. Did you trade the 100 or do you still have it for sale? These guys are right on here...I sold mine and want another one. Even with a brand new BMW in the family...haha.

For years all my vehicles were sporty cars; however, I have not had a car since 1991. The LC/LX is the nicest, best built vehicle I have owned, but it is not for everyone. There are times I still miss my first vehicle - a 65 Mustang convertible, 289, 4 spd, modified for a nice sporty ride. However, I am very happy with my 100.

I don't want to...

I have my 100 series for sale, but I don't really want to sell. I start medical school in August, and my wife is going back to graduate school. Oh yeah, did I mention that we have two young kids. Anyway, I've decided I don't mind if it sells, and here's why. If it sells then I can just get a newer one (plus a FJ40) in 5-7 years, not long for a young guy. And it will make my wife stress less, which is always a good thing. On the other hand, there are a lot of horrible drivers out there, and having the LC does offer a lot of security (especially with the kids)......not to mention reliability, space, versitility, etc. My wife has actually really gotten attached to the LC. I should just give you guys her email address, and you could set her straight.

Also, I can't believe he picked an RL over the BMW. There's a reason it's been the ultimate sports sedan for the past/future two decades. Germans know how to build cars!!

Cars not SUV's, I loved my BMW's ever one of them. All cars should be RWD or AWD. My .02
I hate FWD cars that claim to be performance cars...

Oh and you will miss your 100 and you will be back!

Its not FWD, its AWD. The reasons why i went with the RL over the BMW:

1. the new 5 series is ugly, and it will stay that way for another 5-6 years given BMW's normal product life.
2. iDrive is a pain.
3. a similarly equipped 530i, with 40 less horsepower runs $57,415. Given the RL's discount that's $14k, or 34% more. And again, that's with less horsepower (255 vs 290). The xi, with all wheel drive, is even $2k more than that.
4. BMW thinks owners should listen to the engine, not the stereo. I like listening to both, and BMW's audio system rates a 5 on a 10 scale in my book, with the RL an 8 or 9. DVD-A in the RL is fantastic-- and MP3's sound good too.
5. The RL has better lateral acceleration - which makes sense given the SH-AWD. Weight distribution isn't as good as BMW's legendary 50/50- but- the Acura handles better. Technology to the rescue.
6. The RL has a less stiff highway ride - probably because they squeeze handling via SH-AWD instead of low profile wheels and tires and a stiffer suspension.

Believe it.

1. Equally equipped 530 will cost significantly more
2. RL has way more power and SH-AWD
3. RL has more interior room.
4. Much more comfortable
5. I get to drive it instead of the 3 series loaner car at the shop

I drove both and liked the RL better. Simple as that.

I drove a RL and think it's great too. They did a good job on the styling (finally) and the interior is nice. Meanwhile BMW went backwards in both departments.
If I were buying it to keep for awhile, I'd take it over the BMW too.

I'll give you that..

I definitely agree with you on the BMW style, they destroyed the beautiful lines. Plus, for some reason German navigation systems are horrid compared to their japanese rivals...why, I don't know.
Why didn't you check out the 330 (thankfully they spared the 3 series styling), that only has 2.5" less leg room in the rear, and still looks hot!! Also did you drive the Lexus IS350....my brother has one, and it's great!!
I wouldn't have picked the RL, but hey "different strokes for different folks". Enjoy!!

Both great vehicles. Can't go wrong with either... its just a matter of preference. As for the 330, there are a few things wrong with the front and rear styling. I'm glad they fixed it with the coupe version.... not to mention in available turbo!!

I haven't owned a car for a while, but my wife picked an Alfa Romeo 159 diesel for daily driving (mostly to get to the work). But I have no intention of selling a LC, as it makes a great travelling vehicle - and I just can't go back to travelling with agencies and staying in hotels.
In my openion a LC100 is also the best vehicle if I would have to have only one.
But I enjoy driving the Alfa and it also consumps only half the fuel compared to the LC. The reason she didn't want a 3-series BMW is that they are really ugly - outside and even more inside (I wanted a RWD car, but I had to agree on that). If you intend to drive only on the paved roads than there is no point in having a LC100. Regarding safety - cars are safer than SUVs, as they have better brakes and handle better on road. And even on crash tests modern cars like BMW 3, BMW 5, Alfa 159,... perform better than SUVs.
Right now I can't afford it - but if I could, my ride to work would be Lotus Elise ;) .

Your right when a car of is in a accident with a car of the same size. Have you ever watched what happens when a 180 lb half back runs into a 260 lb line backer :) I'll stick with my 5400 lb LC versus a 3000 lb BMW :)

Vehicle safety is more than just crash worthiness. Visibility, handling, braking, avoidance, driver controls, seating, vehicle color, etc. are all factors in overall safety. We recently had a vehicle that topped out all the crash tests and had all the latest safety gadgets. Yet we perceived it as one of the least safe vehicles we have owned, because it had quirks that caused all our drivers to feel unsafe in it - things just happened to it. It was nice to know that in a crash it would have been one of the "safest" on the road. We had an accident in it caused by poor visibility - and no one was hurt. We are back in a 100, visibility is great. Others see us. Everything works predictably. Everyone feels very safe in it.

But you might avoid an accident because of shorter brake distance and better handling. But then again - when I drive the LC I am always slower then in a sportier sedan and I guess my brake distance would be about the same.

I guess safety has a lot to do with defensive driving. I was involved in quite some accidents in my early driving years, but that has changed lately - I haven't had an accident in last 500k km. But I wouldn't say I drive slower now.

Many people prefere LC80 or LC78 for travelling. They say LC100 is not a real offroader. But on the other hand - I've seen pictures and stories of the same people how they've rolled over those cars when they drove over a hole in the road they didn't see. Could they avoid it if they where driving a LC100 with independent front suspension and better handling? Safety is always on the first place for me.
