Thermostat housing questions?

3FE thermostat housing

Can you please help me identify 1, 2, and 3?

They look like sensors... but which one is for the temp gauge?

Sorry I don't have a motor like yours, but it ain't #2!

Why don't you remove the connector off #1 and #3 and ground the wire to see if the temp gauge reacts?

My bet is on #3....

Edit: I tried to get a decent pic for ya. No go with a fully assembled motor. I seem to remember reading the sender is in the head. About as far back as #5 spark plug, driver's side of the valve cover, well hidden by the throttle body. Anyone with a pic or can confirm my memory?

BTW that upper radiator hose connection to the t-stat housing is getting pretty sorry. Better get after that!

Yep, if that's on the outside, it's a good bet there's much more inside. I vote for a full cooling system inspection and PM very soon.
