I figured it would only be a matter of time before the 1990 Prado would show up in the American market.
It's here!!
And yes I realize I didn't post a link.... That was intentional.

Welcome to the generation of electronic lockers, 1HZ, 1HD-T, and coil spring suspension.

Some of us took care of our toys so the hand me downs won't be so bad.

And electronic hubs...

If you guys in the US import Prados from Canada, you'll be much better off than we were getting them from Japan. Even though the kms will be higher, the bugs will be worked out, heads upgraded etc., and they will be more reliable for the most part.

Having owned a Prado for a few years now, driving it VERY hard towing etc., I have one recommendation to every other 2LTE owner out there. If you want to protect the head from overheating damage, PLEASE upgrade to a waterless coolant. This is the single best investment you can make in preventing the head from cracking. I have done basically every mod that can be done to the engine, and have studied the head issue in detail. PM me for more info, or post here, and I can explain why the waterless coolant is the only thing that will work.

And please note, other than the head susceptibility, 70 series Prados are really nice trucks. Love mine. I think pretty much everyone that has owned a Prado has loved the truck and had few issues with exception of the engine head.

While the engine issues are well documented on 'MUD, the Ebay crowd may not be as well informed.
I especially like the first sentence in the ad.
  • Bullet proof engine and transmission, Awesome four wheel drive.
Of all of the adjectives I've heard to describe the 2L-TE, bullet proof isn't usually one of them.

Please don't drive them much and keep them in the garage from October through April and I'll be in touch. :)

I would not get a 2L-TE powered anything when 1HZ powered HZJ77's are now available.

Where I live that is a difference of $20,000. I'll live on coils and fix/swapout the 2LTE thanks. ;)

Do there breaks suck?

Brakes are excellent. Four wheel disks. Front calipers same as 2nd gen V6 4 runner, which are bigger than 40/60 series cruiser calipers. Same rear calipers as 80 series. All rotors are big.

'Twas a subtle jab at 1978HJ45's title.

They're - 'they are' contracted.

Their - possessive adjective

Breaks - brakes on the 80 forum
Edited with apologies

Oops! Missed that, sorry.

I'm not saying it's a cheap delta....

Pay to play.

If I had the cash to burn, I'd be into a HZJ77...with 1HZ swapped to 1HDT. I hear ya.

In my situation (living in one of the most unaffordable cities of the world), I have to make do with the lowly Prado however...

GT - though your city/province is an expensive place to live, it is also very beautiful. As a cousin from south of the border, I think of BC as the promised land. :)

GT - Some of the US 70s posters are kind of snarky, please forgive them.

No offense taken, and thanks for the complement on BC. I love the place too.

(Wardharris) ... "Some of the US 70s posters are kind of snarky, please forgive them". ....... In reference to the above post, "snarky" is not the adjective I would use but I'll take the higher road.
In the future, I'll consult my English teaching daughter before I post on 'MUD so those with a lot of time on their hands can just move along.

Geez Chris, quit bein' a dick

Harsh....

Dick, then?

Wasn't picking on anyone's intelligence, assuming autocorrect or general error in haste.

More sensitive a subject here, I reckon, so I will note to never broach in the future.

so those with a lot of time on their hands can just move along.

Don't quite understand the sentence, but can take a hint and will oblige.

My apologies for offending.

I'll remain more aware of sensitivities and not poke fun in the future.

Loved my KZJ78. Zero issues in 240,000kms and the guy I sold it to is still driving it daily, I think.
