Been a while since I updated my BJ70 rebuild thread , so long that the thread had been closed! so I thought I'd make an update , theres been abit of progress..
I started out with a rolled BJ70 , and another one for parts. Picked up a good body and alot of late nights in the shed began...
Heres the photos from the previous thread for those you haven't seen any of my 70's before.
I'd been thinking about going SOA for a while for a number of reasons. I liked the clearance gains , I wanted to put wider 60 series axles in anyway so new mounts were gonna have to be made anyway. I didn't wana fork out 2-3 K on a super expensive "lift kit" & I didn't have a clue how to go coils let alone afford the dosh for someone else do it it, so I decided for SOA
Heres whats been happening lately . After sticking in a Beautifully awesome 12HT ( I wish 70's originally had this engine!) & whacked a bullbar & PTO winch on ,the front end sat down and sagged badly.
First shot shows Spring under , the last shows spring over. Took it for its first spin this evening and everything went awesome!
'The Twin' is this Beaut. I decided to modify this the same for a couple reasons , the above SOA reasons for the above Cruiser but also in NZ , If you modify a 4WD beyond a certain point you have to get "certification" ie , an engineer looks over it and access's it for safety. As this was due for this I thought bugger it , if I'm gonna pay the cash I may as well do some decent mods to justify the cash spent
So heres some 'before pics' . The last is how it sits currently. Matching half made bullbar with PTO winch mounted far back as possible
The suspension seriously needs an overhaul , this is the one getting 60 axles this week. I'm pretty crappy with the camera but where possible Il get some shots done of the work
Question for you fellas , in putting the 60 series axles in the diffs are 3.7 ratio ( cable locking) The original 70's were 4.1s , seemed to go fine on the 4.1s but with the 3.7s I thought I'd regear for the 35's. Do ya's reckon 4.56's or 4.88's is the go? The 35 wranglers are a very decent size 35
