has anyone heard anything about these, i've been thinking of going Diesel and a co-worker said his uncle had a marine one on his boat and was very happy with it, other than that he's didnt
know too much about them.

thx

Steyr is a very cool engine. Monoblock - no head. They have a pretty cool hybrid drive out right now - we are trying to build one into a "Green" boat, but it's still in R&D process right now. I have seen fuel curves for the 280Hp version, they look OK, pretty good on fuel.

looks pretty cool. Wonder how much they cost?

yeah i was looking at the M16 TC, but all i could find was marine dealers here in the US.
i does have a turbo!!!

I would have to ask why the Steyr? Much easier to choose a tried and tested conversion.
I know the Toyota diesels are expensive in the US,but by the time you shoehorn in some oddball engine that no one knows anything about, you will have spent more than a what a Toyota conversion would have cost.
I know Steyr have a good reputation but ,so do the Toyotas

Just my 3cents;)

thats true, i did see an add in the new 4wd Toyota Owner mag with some toyota diesel engines for sale.

they look cool. but like rosco said might not be a good choice for U.S. folks

Get a Yanmar. (They are a toyota block) :-)

Do you mean the marine version of the 1HDT diesel? They are probably twice the cost of the landcruiser version.

If I lived in the US and had limited funds ,I would do the Chev V8 diesel conversion.
Not perfect but they cheap and plentiful and there are a few kits on the market

I think there is also a smaller one based on the B block - I can't remember which one it was though. Regardless, I'm sure if one was buying a new engine, it would be MUCH more expensive to buy a marine engine and convert it for land use, than just to find a land engine to use...

Cheers, mate. I would do a 6.5L turbo or a 6.2L with add on turbo before I drop another $6k on a 2H conversion. The 6.2L with add on turbo can deliver great torque for half the bucks.

In the U.S. you want the marine IP (best) or the HMMV IP (second best) for the 6.5td. Not sure what the rest of the world got, but those are not throttle by wire as are the stock US 6.5td's. The marine IP has the most aggressive timing, but put some serious radiator in front of it!

Did it ever come in a on road vehicle?? If not, you may have a seriously hard time smogging it..
