Option #2 definetly

The stock clutch is more than enough. Have the flywheel resurfaced. ( and dont let the shop tell you they cant. It is a stepped flywheel and you can get a good 15 too 20 thousandths of an inch off and still be good. The stealership will tell you you need a new flywheel but a good resurfacer can handle the job.

Cam

10-4 Sir!

I have considered this option and the owner's of the shop and Mechanics where I take her know that I am not that ez to fool.

Thanks for the help Cam.

I will get those guys working on the clutch right of way.

She's back in the shop Agaain

Well more maintenance on my Paloma and she's in the shop agaain. Is not for the clutch yet but the brake calipers.

I drove her last Friday and felt something was not right.

I had felt something rare on the dodge since a couple weekends ago when I went to drop off the trailer to Harlingen.

It felt like running kind of hard/something holding her.

it could not be the clutch since I had no load and it would shift right. no noise what so ever or grinding.

It got to the point that I was smelling like the clutch and I was trying to cross a major intersection in Matamoros(remind me of somebody I know, and did not know how to shift a peterbilt).

I would let go of the clutch and she would have a hard time moving forward. I would change to 2nd and it would loose speed dramatically to the point I would have to go back to 1st.

Finally I got to a place where I got off and told my kids to be quiet since I needed to know what was going on.

My first thought was the rear axel.

The D60 that it recently had been installed is going out again.

...went and touched the hubs on the rear diff and it was at normal temperature.

Guess we're good back there.

I had the truck on and in neutral. I tried pushing her I could not mover her.

..that sucked!

I had done it before w/ the engine off, so I knew I could push the sumbitch.

I went and open the hood and everything in there look OK. it was dark but I at least looked in there.

no fuel leak, check! ...great! we're good in that dept.

no water leaks, check!

no break fluid leak check!

wait a minute, what about the damn brakes in the front?

like the red necks say "HOT DAMN!" that s*** was smoking hot.

There's the f' cking problem

so sadly I had to drive her on 1st gear for about a mile back to the damn shop. it was closing time and I was going to leave her there on the street even if nobody was there. To my luck they were closing.

So I left her there and walk home w/ the kiddos.

Well we really walk half way home about a mile or so.

we did stop to eat some tacos on the way and then we kept on walking home. By then my wife was out of work and she met us half way.

so the story on the Paloma to be continue!

I am laughing my ass off! Why is it that I can't seem to read any of JP's post without reading them in his accent?

"Hot Damn" glad to see you didn't go hungry! Keep us posted.

At least he's just chunking pesos at it. Ain't near as expensive that way!

she's back on the road

...front calipers have been maintained and she's stoping like a new truck!

The emergency/parking brake is back on business. This here brake is hi(like half way).

...not like it was before, down at the bottom.:bounce::bounce2:

At least he's just chunking pesos at it. Ain't near as expensive that way!

She's back on the road!:steer:

...and now that you mention my friend about spending pesos.

This repairs/maintenance for only $75.00US dollars.:flipoff2:

I can't complaint. :hillbilly:

Now my 80 is in the shop.

she's getting a tune up since that thing is wasting gas like a mother f' ...

But then again all she got last year was oil changes and minor stuff.

she needs and deserves some TLC that's al'

Next repair on the Paloma will be the Clutch.

I will be driving her around for a few days and hope that nothing else fails at any intersection.

Stay tune, the story on the Paloma is to be continue!

I missed a sign!

coming this afternoon from work, Jonah tells me "make a turn here dad and lets see a sign that we saw earlier."

I was kind of undecided on heading that way since the rains flooded the entrance to the subdivision where I live and the street where he wanted me to drive still full of water.

I listened to Jonah and drove to the damn street.(You'll find out later in the story why Damn street)

As I was driving, I saw one of those trucks that deliver drinking water on the middle of the street, w/ no driver.

...waited there for a lil' and the driver finally came, by then there were 2 cars behind me waiting to go by.

At this point, I am not upset but the lady behind me was on the horn, it seemed like she was in a hurry.

Finally the deliver truck moved and I proceded on to the intersection, made a stop.

I got ready to turn right and both of my kids were telling me "there's the sign Dad! "

So I slowly start moving forward and turn right to read the sign.
By then the lady behind me was hunking and she was well you know, pissed at world.

I didn't even finish reading the sign and let the clutch out and BANG!

guess what happened?

No, my Paloma was not hit in t the front!

I missed "the F'cking sign" that was indicating that the sewer lid had been removed and that there was a big f'cking hole on the ground.

If you're wondering how the hell did I miss "the sign", well "the sign" is just a fancy name that I am using for a tree branch/stick that was stuck on the sewer hole just to advise people that there were no lid on the sewer and that the damn hole was wide... That sumbitch was wide! EZ 4ft x 4ft.

My Paloma was down guys!

Guess what the bang was!

I didn't even know what the hell had happened!

all we felt was that our Paloma had it's nose down (passenger side).

The kids were asking me," what happened".

I told 'em let me check.

I got off the truck and realized that I was in the sewer hole, and guess what I missed, "the damn sign".
... by the sign, I am referring to the damn tree branch/stick. not the one I was supposed to read.

funny, one of my kids was telling me," I can believe you missed it"

I told them thanks to you two I am in this trouble! ...I read half of it.

... and then Ferni says, no dad not that sign, the stick!

Jonah wanted me to read the sign in the house and Ferni was talking about the stick.

I told him quiet boy don't need that kind of help.

...got the kids out of the truck and we started walking towards the water delivery truck.

...by then, the guy saw me and started to walk away from me and towards the truck.

the lady honking, just shook her head as she moved on.

I cough up to the driver and asked him for help, he said "don't worry we'll get you going!"

got a rope? I said "No, but I live closed by"

so he said "where to"?

got the boys on the delivery truck and went home.

got 2 tow straps from home and went back to the scene of the crime.

the neighbors were looking at me kind of funny since we arrived and left w/ the delivery guy.

when we got there, My paloma was down in bad shape.

...from the front end, it look like the sewer hole was going to eat/swallow her.

tied up the 2 straps and it took two pulls to retrieve her from the sewer hole.

While the pulling, I had her in reverse and the smell of the cluch came back.

At the time I did not care I wanted her out.

once out I thank the guys gave them $20.00 for their troubles and headed home.

so far no damage, will see tomorrow!...but she's definetly going back to the shop!

...and I am going to check out that Blue Demon tomorrow

lesson learn, keep the eyes on the road and read "the signs":hillbilly:

I told the story to my wife and she was laughing, I don't think she was laughing w/ me tho'

You have the same luck as I do. Washer went out on Tuesday and TV went out on Wednesday. Glad I already sent my check to the cottonland boys or I believe the wife would shut the trip down to Hot Springs. Later,

I see a Blue Demon in your future!

in pursuit of a another DODGE!

I went to see the Blue Demon.

the truck seems to be in good shape. body has a lil rust but that comes w/ the territory, South TEXAS!

I could not test drive it since it was getting dark.:frown:

I told the owner that I would go today, but I am commited to some other social events w/ my wife.

I'll prolly go back tomorrow and test drive the trucks.

Yeap! you read it right!

Terry, the owner of the blue demon, has another Dodge diesel.

It's a 92 4wd w/ about 135000 miles I believe, I could be wrong though.

It's an automatic dana 60 & 70 w/ 35's mickey's. :bounce::bounce2:

about $1500 on sound system nice tunes tho'

what suck about the truck is the body!

it's black rhino lined...that w/ time gets dirty.

oh I forgot to metioned that on that 92, well it's just a frame tho'.

This guy built the truck for his son.

Which he ended up not liking it, and since they were going for the classic look(it's also registered as such)

They droped onto the 92 chasis a 69 crew cab Power Wagon (4door) step side body. :hillbilly::flipoff2:

...that sumbitch look purdy guys and the price it's for $7500 for this here Mexican..!

the front seat is 2 seat and console, rear it's bench seat! A/C works

I told Terry that I would give them both of my kids for the dodge, any of them!

You should seen Jonah's eyes since he heard what I said! ha! ha! He got scared!

...For my luck the owner said no Kids,(great relief for Jonah, his color came back) he's done w/ them kids and they're out of the house.

Cash only!

To my misfortune I can't buy it! it calls too much attention, down here what people are doing is going back to the old cars/modest( Ex:My paloma)

The BAD GUYS are taking away the nice trucks at gun point!

Forget stealing them trucks, why bother w/ that! it's simple "give me your keys or you'll die"

Kiss your sorry ass goog bye if you refuse to give them the Keys or turn you Cadillac, Tahoe, 'Burban Keys to them.

My buddies at the shop said that I could buy it and leave it there at the shop along w/ my 79 FJ40

...and of course they want the Keys too!

Now my Wife ain't supporting me on this tho'...can't get out of her a "YES" "YES"

My wife figured it out the "YES" "YES"

hope you guys do!

I'll keep you posted!

will get some once I test drive them!

My Paloma went back to the shop

I sent my dodge back to the shop!

...Mostly for maintenance and getting her ready for the June trip to Moab with the Cottonlanders.
I wanted to drive the 80, but gas prices are not getting better!

I have been driving my Paloma daily due to the hi gas prices.
The 80 don't stand a chance with the gas savings.
The 80 is $78.00 a gas tank, and the Paloma is 580.00 pesos... about $56.00 US dollars

Yes, I put diesel in Mexico! about $3.10/gal...can't beat that!
The Mexican diesel is a lil' stinky but who cares!
...even though I changed the Oxygen sensor on my 80, she don't stand a chance against my Paloma.

The mileage on the 80 is 14miles/gal, this is w/ new O2 sensor and it is a 20 gal tank).
The Paloma is 20miles/gal and a 25 gal tank.

anyways!

The Paloma got new brakes all around and front rotors.
The old ones were turned but later found out that their life was pretty much gone, so there comes the new rotors.

Since the rotors were out, I had the shop checked the bearings and found out that the driver side were in good shape and the passenger side were dried and rusted.

I was wondering why?
... since I had changed them at the same time, and later remember the "sign" incident, where the passenger side fell in the water,so the bearings on the passenger side were changed.

Once that was done, we went and look at the clutch, since I was not too sure in what kind of shape it was.
We found out that the old Paloma needed a new clutch!

...So I started looking for one!

I called South Bend and some other clutch place strickly for diesel truck and found them around $357.00 plus shipping. This was just for the clutch, pressure plate and the tool to install it.
I also called O'reilis. They sell a SACHS brand for $409.00.
Theirs included the same plus the pilot bearing.
I went with this, since it was free on shipping and it was the same brand as the one coming off.

I am thinking the SACHS is the original from back in '93.

Also since the transmission was off and we were there already, I told them to change the rear main seal!

I am trying to eliminate similar troubles on the road with the family and pulling a trailer.
This is due to the issues that happened w/ the trailer, not the truck back in March this year when we were going to the Round UP. It's not nice to fix mecanical problems on the road, especially when cars are going at a hi speed and the family is with you. Vacations are to enjoy and not to stress out!

I also asked the guys at the shop to change the oil in the tranny
(I am sure our President can relate to this, since he keeps talking about his tranny:hillbilly:)

we're putting 5 quarts of royal purple 5w 30. I looked for the oil specs on this tranny and found nothing!
I also went to the dodge forums and they were comenting on using the royal purple 5w 30,that's where the idea came from, so if it's in the internet, it's true!:grinpimp:
I also got to see the oil and it was thin, notthing like gear oil tho' or 90w.
Later we found out that the rear output seal on the tranny was leaking.
So we're also going to change the seal.

My Paloma still in the shop, she'll be out tomorrow

So the Paloma has the Following new:

new front rotors
new brakes all around
repack w/ grease all bearings
new rear main seal
new clutch
Tranny oil change
refill w/ "oil"rear differential(since the Dana 70 craped out back in '09, don't want that again)

All these is all I can afford this month

things pending for next month:
*oil change(sumbitch is expensive! ..it makes up for the gas saving, but the the 80 cant' beat old Paloma)
*2 new tires
*fan clutch(still good but when she's pulling the trailer w/ the 80, she gets hot!)
*coolant will be change since I did it 2 yrs ago when I bought her
*new wipers
*duck tape for quick repairs(mostly for kids and wife, it's a long ass trip)
* move front seats forward in order to make room for a rear bench for kids in the back.
* New electrical circuit to plug in computer and electronic games in the back

I guess that should be it

anything else that I might need?

...and the 80 becomes a trail rig on this and a trailer queen!:hillbilly:

What's the mileage towin' that heavy-ass 80 on a heavy-ass trailer though? :meh:

:flamingo:

huh? ..you got me on this one sir!

No idea yet but the Paloma gave me about 17-16miles/gal pullin the gooseneck w/ the 40 plus ' lil' military trailer.

Observations:

Clutch feels like a brand new truck, it's real soft not like a dump truck clutch.
Brakes are soft, but to my taste it needs lil' adjustment.
all and al' she right!

to the bad news:
The 80 is drinking a lot of water, and that's not good. those are cooling issues, Darn it!
