My Dodge is back in the shop:mad:

Last weekend I needed to go to Riviera,Tx. Which is about 2hrs. north from here, I was going to pick up an 89- 90ish Chevy Crew cab 1 ton truck that I found, which will be used for parts going on my currrent 79 Fj40 and my 74 Fj40

On Sunday I fired up the Dodge to warm up the engine, had to go back into the house, and when I was getting ready to head out, I saw a leak under my truck. I went and checked it out and I saw a fuel leak from the fuel screw on my fuel injection pump.:meh:

I went on a hunt for an o-ring for the fuel screw and I ended up buying the rebuilding gasket kit for the injection fuel pump. :ban:

I don't know much about the diesel engines, and I was under the impression that it was just matter of taking of the fuel screw and putting the o-ring and put back on the fuel screw into the pump. ...not so!

I took the Paloma back to the shop where they did my rear diff and they told me that they need to take the pump out in order to change the o-ring

hopefully this thing will be resolve and my Paloma will be ready to fly again for the Round up, Not much activity on my 40.

On different note:
Anyways, I felt that I needed to post something in this forum to rescue it.

...Since it has been overwhelming the activity and participation from everyone, Also to take some of the heat from Bodean!

Is our fearless leader in some sort of vacation from this here forum and wondering somewhere on the Heep forums?

Or he just dumped us for the Heep Sissies? :flipoff2:

carry on!

Sorry sir I said I was going to leave you alone.

can al' just get along?:hillbilly:

Anyways back to the dodge.

The Paloma still in the shop and the fuel injection pump is getting the rebuilt kit install.

...even with all this things I would not sell my dodge just yet or buy another one.

I did inquire about the prices in a diesel shop in Brownsvile for regasketing the fuel pump and they would charge me about $795.00 to do the job.

Keep in mind, I am at the border and I know my way around in the Mexican side.

I took the dodge to the shop(in Mexico) that does work on our 80's and now they are up to the task on the Dodge again. They already did the rear diff for me.

So let see how that works.

My concern is that these guys can fix things to a stock specs but not much of performance.

My Dodge was running a lot better to my likes. My buddy James moved the fuel screw a couple turns and the Paloma woked up. It was running more like a regular truck(gas) then a old diesel.

she would puff a lil' bit of black smoke.

I just have to wait and see what the outcome is.

I should find out sometime this week!

well here's an update on my dodge.

I got the Paloma back and she runs ok!

I am not too happy with her but the diesel leak stop.:meh:

...Like I mentioed before, we had turned the fuel screw a couple of turns.

She was running pretty good but since it was making more power the clutch started slipping.:hhmm:

I told the shop about the fuel screw and they took the truck back to the Diesel lab and turned the fuel crew. I just don't know how much they turned the fuel screw.

I really can't tell at ths point if she's where she was before.

I am driving her around to get a feel of her performance and if she's ready for a trip.

She's gving me about 15 mpg city and highway, and I even hauled a gooseneck. ...which is damn better then the 80.

At this point I am going to be conservative and leave it as she is right now.

I am going to wait until I change the clutch and then turn the fuel screw again a 'lil.

I like the black smoke, what can I say!:hillbilly:

The price for this job was cheap $285.00.

THat is pretty cheap. Make sure thye didn't but horse s*** in your interior Iif they did a tuck and roll on the seats while it was there)!!!

You bringin' some more of them tamales to the RoundUp?

How much is a bottle of Patron tequilla (silver) 'cross the border??

You bringin' your boyfriend again???

:flamingo:

Stop right there, everybody freeze!

This here thread is about my Paloma.

When the Round Up thread is open, I'll start taking orders.

Daryl no problem with Sombrero. I'll start looking for them big hats. I'll tell you right now, they don't sell sombreros that big to cover the entire cruiser. Now you could put 3 hats together and cover the whole front seating area.

Mr. President, I am not too sure of bringing tequila for you.

Last time, to be exactly, the Ramble '07 you were not in good shape.

Somebody need to be responsible for your sorry drunken ass!:flipoff2:

Fro is not around to take care of you and I doubt that poor Debbie wants to put up w/ you.

As far as Loui coming, he said he will come but Wife and lil troopers are coming too.

Paloma=White Dove

Sorry for the thread hi-jack JP. I don't really need another hat - just messin with ya.

BTW - could you possibly find a more gay name for your truck?:princess: I liked it better when I didn't know what it meant....

if that clutch started slipping with the fuel screw turned up it is going to slip with a heavy load on the back of it.

be careful that flywheel is 650 from the dealer and they normally can not be turned if heavy damage has occurred

Well it wasn't me who gave her the name, it was my Mom, can you believe that!

My god my hillbilly friend! ... that's exactly what happened.

First trip we made on the dodge pulling a 16footer goose neck w/ my 40 and 1/4ton military trailer on it and we started smeeling the clutch.

We were on our way to Hot springs and we stoped at a flat spot to change drivers since I was driving and Loui was going to take over.:steer:

When started moving, we could smell the clutch.:hhmm:

the truck keept moving but we knew something was not/is not right.

..like I said before, I hauled the trailer this past Saturday but it was empty, no smell of clutch at all but now I don't feel too comfortable, especially since my wife and kids are coming to Katemcy in March.

So the Paloma goes back to the shop.:crybaby:

I really don't mind fixing this things.

I'd rather do preventive maintenance then be stranded in the middle of nowhere w/ wife and kids.

So what's is recommended to do in this cases? ...

...and No, I am not selling my Paloma to buy another one.!

Option#1 Change for a heavy duty clutch?

or

Option#2 Cut/resurface the stock flywheel and a new stock clutch.

...Keep in mind, the Paloma will do at least 3 trips pulling the same load as mentioned above.

any help will be appreciated.

Option #2 definetly

The stock clutch is more than enough. Have the flywheel resurfaced. ( and dont let the shop tell you they cant. It is a stepped flywheel and you can get a good 15 too 20 thousandths of an inch off and still be good. The stealership will tell you you need a new flywheel but a good resurfacer can handle the job.
