Is: leaving Glenwood Springs Colorado early Thursday morning, driving directly to Maze via Hans Flats (270 miles grom Gwood), then spending thursday night, friday night, saturday night, and a big push all the way back to Gwood realistic? We're planning on going April 19-22nd.

Anything I should know for a schedule like that? Would it make sense to add an additional day, if possible? Aside from extra gas, good spare, hi-lift, anything else we should plan on packing?

You should post up on the Rising Sun forum or the Wasatch Cruisers forum. A bunch of guys from Rising Sun have been going out there for the past couple of years and could give you some advice.

We did it from Denver in that timeframe back in November, although our route in was slightly different. We drove over Ehill (in the dark :)) and camped Wednesday night in Devil's Kitchen, then drove from Devil's Kitchen to the Doll House on Thursday.

Your Thursday and Sunday will be looonnngg travel days, but definitely feasible and definitely worth it!

270 miles isn't that bad even in a Cruiser. I've done well over 500 in a day. It's not fun, but it's doable.

Yes, doable for sure...what do you want to do? any particular place you want to see? I have spent quite a bit of time in the Maze...I could be more specific with thoughts if you gave me an idea where you want to go...Or, are you up for anything?

I'm checking with my Cruiser buddy that I'm going with to get our proposed route, camping location(s), etc...

No worries...PM me if you want...I can share with you maps, insights, etc. You will love it! If you are willing to get out and use the legs; you will see some crazy awesome stuff! 4 days will tease you...You will be back:)

Let me know...

be'ins that my wife and kids are going, and she knows that I am going through my LC and getting it Maze-ready...would you think that brand new 35's and a snorkel are "necessities?" You know to clear anything we encounter and keep the desert dust and bugs out of the engine so the LC keeps going while we're waaayyy out there?:hhmm::grinpimp:

The snorkel would be a good addition for dust mitigation, but the 35's are completely unnecessary. You could get to the Dollhouse or Overlook on 31's.

Oh, that's a great trip and there is so much more exploring to do when you have more time. You'll have longer days in April than we had in November and that's a big help. I really enjoyed the trip over E-hill at night . . . alone . . . since I arrived late having drove straight through from Indiana with my buddy Ted. It really seemed like a different trail than the other times I've been over it during daylight. I had to get out and walk ahead a couple of times with the flashlight "just to be sure". Ted had never been wheeling like this and this night run really surprised him.

I actually read through every post on your 2011 thread yesterday. After seeing the pictures you guys took we are very very excited for this trip. bummer on the 4Runner!

Ya my poor ol' 3FE engine would hate turning wide 35's. I am probably going to put on some 33" A/T pizza cutters (I am in need of new tires anyways). I wonder if I could finagle (sp) my way into a snorkel and hide it behind the guise of "necessary for this trip." :)

This weekend we're going to start going through my rig at the local Toyta to get everythign in tip-top shape before we head out.

Totally.

One thing that stood out for me was that the drive time estimates the NPS gives were pretty close for driving around the Maze.

The way point for teh Doll House is the end of the road at a cliff, can't miss it. Maze Overlook is cool.

You can hike down to the Colorado there, near the Granary (signed). It is called Spainish Bottom. You can also swim at a sandy beach downstrem from Spainish Bottom (assuming flodding didn't wipe out the sand bar)

There ain't much hard wheeling. But bring lots of gas. We also didn't get a permit because we didn't have a portable toilet (really)
