Alright, I want to start by thanking everyone who's helped me in the process of getting the head off of my 2F. This site have been sorta inspirational and motivating to get me wrenching some. Here is the last possible question on removal. MY HEAD BOLTS WON'T BUDGE. I can get on the bumper and lean back/pull with all my might, but the bolt just won't loosen. I've tried the Gunk engine part lube and a teflon aeronautic lubricant with no helping results. Anyone recommend a way to get these bolts moving. Do I have to worry about these bolts breaking?

Have u tryed the 1/2" or 3/4" breaker bar with another 2 feet extention on it? I don't remember the torque on those bolts, but they are probably 150 lbs-ft.

The factory torque on the boltsd is 94ftlbs. Not that high. But if you're removing bolts that have been in place for awhile can be really stiff to get moving. If you are not using a breaker or cheater bar you will curse every last one of them. Grab a half inch drive rachet and socket, and slip a 2 foor pipe over the handle. They'll come off just fine.

Is this the same as a socket wrench w/out the switch to loosen AND tighten? I just have a 3/8 socket wrench right now, will a 1/2 inch be better as well?

1/2 inch breaker bar about 2 or 3 feet long. AKA cheater bar.

WOW! If you had managed to get those bolts loose with a 3/8 drive rachet and now extender... That would be something to brag about. ;)

You can use your 3/8 drive rachet. But as before, slip a pipe over the handle for increased leverage. You *can* break a rachet this way, but 100 or so ftlbs shouldn't be a problem.

Hmmmm... It would be an excuse to buy a new socket wrench. Lets see if I have some pipe laying around. Hopefully the next time you hear about my cylinder head, It'll be back on and running! Thanks for the help!

well the socket wrench made it through the 1st 13 head bolts. #14 killed it though. Guess I get a new one tommorrow.

Good luck on the head bolts, us an impact wrench!!!!! it will make you lazy!

I broke a 1/2" socket using a 4 ft long lead pipe. The lead pipe works great attaching it on the a good wrench. Just start slow and wear some saftey glasses.

I was headed back to the garage to look for a pipe when I noticed there was a grinding rail, for skateboarding, next to the dumpster in my apt. complex. Pulled it in half and used it. It worked great until the wrench broke. I'll finish it off tommorrow.
