I might hit that up since WE will be in the area.
Who= my wifes 17 year old half brother.
He grew up (or is growing up) on the Edge of the Talladega National forest and knows it well.
We are heading out to do some scouting for him. He is planning on hosting an "expedition style" ride through the forest and taking donations for a "mission" he works for (helping kids in West Anniston).
Should be pretty cool though 150 + miles of "off road" with short hikes to water falls and endless vistas mixed in. He is planning on doing a two day trek with camping and providing a dinner.

150 miles offroad in two days with hikes and sight seeing?

Give or take.. Hince "scouting" trip..
The "off road" will be mostly easy forest road.
I would guess average 15 mph so that would be 10hrs in two days..
Might be a bit much... I'm thinking that the forest from one end to the other is 150+ miles, we may not be able to do the whole thing.

I used Quicken for my refinance after my divorce and was really pleased with their service. I don't know how they compare on rates and what not but they were competitive when I did mine.

Clarence when is your brother planning this trip? How rough is he going to be getting on the hiking parts? I have been looking for something for the entire family from the 3yo to the 30yo wife.

Interesting. I was wondering about some of these national firms that you hear advertising now. I have always used a friend in the past but he has left the business unfortunately.

I used anchor mortgage. Local to tri-county area. I'm finances through suntrust but anchor matched the best national rate @ 3.75% and 5% down. Still left me some loot for minor repairs when I moved in.

Anchor was great because even months after they were able to answer questions and help me with issues that arose with the house regarding home warranty and other stipulations. Many d national companies I couldn't get on the phone to loan me money much less answer questions.

My sister and her husband refinanced with ChaSE at no cost for 4.0% this past month I believe. They were very happy with the transaction and their payment dropped 400$

I'm with Matt on using Quicken Loans. I just refinanced with them and they had competive rates and they were the easiest mortgage company I have ever dealt with. They sent someone to the house to do the all the closing paper work. I don't know if it could have gotten any easier. If you want a mortgage broker I can find the business card of the one I used when I bought my house 5 years ago. She was really good I got her from my brother.

I will avoid the credit union of alabama like the plague the next time I need a mortgage. My lady had a "30 years of mortgage service" award on her desk and she acted like this was her first ever rodeo.

Hahahaha

Which rodeo? The Alpha Psi Rodeo every year in Auburn?

I had a worse experience with mutual savings for the home equity line, but you should be careful what you say about people.

I would send in the pile of required paperwork and wait for a response. after a couple of days I would call and talk to the branch manager who was handling everything and he would act like I never sent anything. I would resend it and then call a few days later. Sometimes he would remember talking to me, sometimes not. He was the most forgetful person I have ever dealt with, which made it especially frustrating since you have to turn in your entire life's history and then some. Not to mention he kept forgetting required forms and so I would have to find new documents and keep sending. All in all in took about a month just to get everything together and that is only because he eventually turned it over to their mortage dept.

A few months later I went in to pay our bill and the branch manager was gone. I asked what happened to him, expecting to hear that he quit or was fired for incompetence, and the cashier said, "Oh, he passed away a few weeks ago." When I asked what happened she said:

"Turns out he had a BRAIN TUMOR, and just suddenly came down with symptoms and died soon after."

I'm not trying to just talk s*** about someone. Just commenting on my experience with their services. I almost didnt get my house because every week there was a new "problem". By the middle of the week it was an "issue" by the end of the week it was a mistake/misunderstanding. That went on for over a month. I closed on the house 2 weeks after our contract expired. Lucky for me it was for sale by owner and the people agreed to the extra time. I'm sure a realtor would have taken the opportunity to make a little more money off me.

Did you read to the end of my post?

Realtor's are bound to a pretty strict set of rules and get paid as a percentage of the sales price by the seller. They may have advised their client to pull the contract but more than likely they would have just waited it out since their work was done and I would assume you were pre-approved for the loan so it was just a waiting game with the CU. I'm sure you weren't the first or last to have that same thing happen there.

I've had 13+/- head surgeries in or around the brain. They tell me I'm normal, I know I'm not. It's OK though, I have fun!

I was supposed to hear about the job today. I hear through the grape vine that the meeting won't be until Monday.

It's going to be a long anxious weekend.

At least I have a little cruiser therapy.
