What... That I'm showing my ignorance?

I just scaned through a few rebuild threads i doesn't seem like somthing that should scare you..
Just need to make the SST but even that seems easy.
Also it doesn't seem like there would be much advantage to doing the job "off the truck".
Unless you want to pull everything apart to clean and paint all purty like.

Sst?

And I was planing on painting them green. :hillbilly:

"Are the brakes on the rear same as the front that you have to take it 1/2 way apart to change rotors?"

No... You just have to take the caliper and braket off then with a couple light taps the disk should come right off.
Give your E brake adjuster a few twists while its off then slap the new one on.
I think i did mine in about an hour maybe a little more.

"Special Service Tool" I think..
Its what they call any tool that the manual calls for but is a toyota specific tool.
Like the jumper to set the timing.. They have a little tool that works but a paper clip works just as well.
In this case it is a tool to get a keyed nut off.. I think..

Here is a pretty good write up
though I bet there are better ones

Jynx is a great guy. He is the one that told me how easy everything is.

Scanning through that confirms what I already knew. He is on a completely different playing field when it comes to mechanical ability.

A rebuild does t seem needed really. Clean, inspect, check seals, lubricate, button her up.

Whoa! what's all this crap?! I ain't reading it.
Here's my take: Sell them locking axles. put an aussie in the rear and never look back. I wheeled HARD without a front locker for years... you can go anywhere with a rear only locker...
It's not hard to pull and reinstall axles, done it a few times... and I've even pulled axles at the pull-a-part... on rocks. But the worst part about a retro fit is the electrical CRAP to deal with... I wouldn't do it.

Nick, I got yo rear full float with an Aussie already in it!

But I gotta buy your whole daggum buggie...I'd like a spare 3fe maybe...

FLASH

Ive been waiting all day for that..

I'm uppity. I want a selectable locker. And that low range site has the wiring and a switch to completely negate the use of any factory wiring.

"I want a spare 3fe"
Shoupe you ARE a hoarder :flipoff2:

too late

I agree with all that exept it looks like for about 75 an axel you can have a harness and rocker switch..
Makes the job easy..
Though I still think one could wire it up thereselves (the quick and dirty way) with out much issue.

Wardamneagle has a whole thread on how to wire them. Matt explained how to do it like he was explaining to someone how to make a pb&j

Who's advice did you take?!
If youen talking about what I think youen is then.... i took yours
Still an 11 year old truck has its issues but you told me that too.

I'm juss sayin', I yell my advice... but it's usually good advice! I care about folks more than I hate them... always lookin' out for the best interest.
swapping in e-lockers is a waste to me. They are troublesome, less reliable, harder to work on, and less strong.
Slapping in a $200 aussie would fix the "go anywhere" problem.

A full bodied 80 doesn't need a front locker, cause in the times that you'd wanna turn it on, is about the time that you don't need a full-bodied rig on that obstacle... it's a check-point to me... don't need it.

Absolutely right about the front....
You can really only use them in a straight line and they take some wiggle room to get them to unlock.

At best (if you keep it locked) you will burn your power steering.

Like I said lockers only get you in more trouble.

yep!
I completely forgot about them needing a football field length needed to "lock" too! Which sadly is a problem, when you NEED them!

Luke is in Colorado this week wheeling. He told me he had to find out the hard way if his lockers worked or not.

I'd rather have them and not need them than to need them and be stuck without them.

I think y'all are right though, I'm going to jump back on this and try to do the rear myself. Weekend after this one.

Matt I'll send you a picture of the Honda at the RNC.
