To be fair - it's like 1/4 hard line, 3/4 soft:

Just look at the hose, the metal tabs are bolted directly to the back of the engine and are even welded to the tube for even better heat transfer. It's like it was designed to transfer heat to the fuel.

That's why 2001LC's posts about a vehicle being in perfect condition, all OEM etc fall on deaf ears.
 
After some hot and heavy (loaded down) wheeling this summer, I'd say the issue is still there. I think the work I've done has alleviated it to some extent. But, when fully loaded (6 people and pulling small cargo trailer) and hot temps (90+) and elevation climbs, it still get's fumey. I need a cool-box for my fuel lines.
