I have never seen a dipstick this bad. I wonder if many of the bearing issues is because people are reading the dipstick wrong and filling it wrong. The V35-FTS has a dipstick that gives false readings/inaccurate because of the smears. Anyone experience this? What I am doing is just draining and replacing the same amount on the manual because reading it is almost hopeless.

I’ve always thought Toyota dipsticks in general were not good… usually takes me four or five attempts before I can get a good reading.

I like the dipstick on the 5.7L from the 200, but the dipstick on the GX5 is woooofff. I agree, a definite downgrade.

I have found a way to get a better reading. When putting the dip stick in make sure the two dots are pointing towards the right side of the vehicle. if you put it another way the dip stick will twist inside and smear as it is going in. I heard also that making the dip stick rougher with sand paper will help, but I want someone else to try it before I do.
