i had a rattling by the pax door panel right by the top of the panel, when you press on it,it stops especially with the radio.I checkin g it out i found out that even with the radio off it still rattle. So on my stereo install i notice that, right above the inside door open handle, their is a clip that holds the door panel to the edge of the door,it's metal to metal,so i put some dynamat there and a long the door edge.I crank the stereo up and none so far.Well after couple of days of driving around i have on noise at all. :bounce:

the way back pop out windows can rattle

I have two rattles in my LX which were not in my LC. One is between the passenger side of the top dash and the window pillar. A toothpick inserted in the slot solved that.

The other rattle occurs when the 3rd row seat is folded up on the passenger side. The rear pillar rattles where the rubber pad on the seat contacts it. The PO claimed they always kept the seats up. Apparently, the rubber piece has "crushed" the pillar somewhat and it creates a squeaking sound. A thick piece of foam rubber between the two has prevented the noise so far. Drivers side is not a problem.

I had a very annoying rattle in my brand new 06 100. It took me a few drives to figure out that it was the same child seat that had been completely silent in my 94 80.

The background noise is so low in the 100's that even the slightest noise is highly noticeable.

I've only briefly crawled under there to look, but I know it's my heat shields rattling. Has anybody tried having them welded at a muffler shop? I'm not even sure if this is practical, because I'm not sure where/why they rattle...

Does replacing them solve the problem?

Follow-up on this: when I had the 90K service done last week, I asked the dealer to take a look. They replaced a couple of screws (I think they actually had to re-tap a couple) and installed lock washers too. For the time being, the infamous heat shield rattle is gone...

Oh, they did it for free ;)

Your heat ticking is normal. I suggest for the steering tick that only occurs while driving that you get a good looking girl to put her head between your legs while you are driving to see if she can find the tick. If something else comes "UP". she can take care of that also :)

Guess I'm lucky on my old 99 with 64K miles, I don't have any rattles. I do have on a cold morning leather rubbing but that is normal. My LC lived in AZ all its life and the bottom looks like new (no rust). Hope that continues, knoock on wood.

She got sidetracked:D

I thought about the key chain because it was always bouncing and rubbing back and forth around corners in my 4runner. In the LC it has enough angle not too.

I've got the cold exhaust heat shield buzz/rattle (couldn't find anything loose), the subtle squeak under certain steering wheel slight on-center turn conditions from the combi switch assy (behind the steering wheel - couldn't find anything loose - its inside the combi switch, probably the clock spring lead), the rattling crap in the door pockets and anywhere else it happens to be, the rattle from the car seat...am I missing anything?

Used to get really worked up about the rattles, but I guess that's ONE area I'm mellowing out about with age...not too concerned about them. It's still a damn fine vehicle, all in all. I choose to view the rattles as just harmless quirks developing with increasing vehicle age - they add character to a fine old friend, now.

This is kind of what I'm talking about! The slight on-center turn, but mines a tick instead of a squeak. What is this combi switch? Also, do you have the adjustable shocks? Mine seems to worsen in sport mode, but that could be in my mind.

Okay, what's the child seat?.. did you get it fixed?.. and if so, what did you or Toyota do for the fix?

This would be good info for those with the seat rattle.

Thx

Tinkerer,

Have you verified this combi switch source of your tick? I have a service bulletin from 9/2006 that talks about a windshield tick in my 2006. I thought my tick was coming from the steering, but it may be traveling and actually coming from my windshield.
